My First Overclock - Success?

It shouldnt rise that much in temperature if you dont put any more volts through it despite the clock you get on it. Clock it till it fails Orthos on the stock voltage and you'll be fine.

The Turbo/extreme thing I set on my DS3R to Extreme. Changes some obscure timings on the memory IIRC. You might want to download Memtest 86+ aswell and run that from boot (its a cd/iso file you need to burn).

I havnt changed any voltage, so i should be fine then. :p

Yeah, go for it. If you set an overclock, it boots, and you run orthos and the computer hangs, dont fret! Just restart, set the clock back and start again. :)

Without changing any voltage and not overclocking my ram, what speed you reckon i could get to? (stock heatsink)

On pretty much every other thread I've seen, people have been able to get to 3Ghz with stock volts and cooler. I mean it varies form chip to chip, but you should expect it to get into that kinda of area without going over 70C.

I'll be doin it myself in a few days when I get my whole new rig (same mobo and cpu) :)

Which test shall i perform?

I'd say say the Small FFT would do. I don't think your RAM should be having any problems up to now. You're gonna want to do it for at least half an hour though.

That'll be fine. You want to run custom then select how much cache the CPU has, on mine I set 4096 for 4 megs (e6600) no idea how much the e2180's have.

you can easily crack that up to 3.1ghz on the stock cooling, mine stays under 75 degrees load, which, obviously isnt the best temp, but isnt dangerous. When you get up to 80-85 degrees, then its getting dangerous, so just watch your temps.

That is some serious heat. I dont know what temp the CPU starts throttling at, but damn, I get worried at anything near 60C. I am on Water though, so if it was near that I think I should be :P

I'm not sure what the min/max thing is.. you might have to find a user guide on the net that tells you that.. but you only put one meg of cache in, because both cores share that 1 meg
