hi i used to game a 1400 by 900 but have just bought a new monitor which im now using 1680 by 1050 can the GTX handle this res ok and play games just as smooth?

Obviously it depends on what games and settings you want to play them at.

But generally speaking, it will eb able to handle just about everything an high to very high settings at the res no problems.

Get a GT, a GTX aint worth it now, especially at that res, the GT is around GTX performance, even Crysis is no problems for the GT, only 1-4 frames slower than the GTX depending on res, and AA/AF, but the 4 frames slower is at 1600x1200 with AA/AF, im sure your res is lower than that, so should be a bit less than 4 frames, and they only £150+, GTX's are £300+, so worthless now, unless your running 24/30 inchers at uber reso's, couple of frames more is nowhere near worth another £150. :)

I think he already has a GTX (according to his sig), and he just wants some re-assurance that it will handle his new monitor's native resolution ok.

That's what I said until someone offered to trade my 2900XT and a bit of cash :D. I was just going to sell and get a GT but I've always wanted a GTX, plus it clocks well. However, you're quite right in what you've said, unless you like playing at crazy resolutions a GTX just aint worth the money.

The GTX has a fundermental desgign floor that prevents it displaying an output at 1680x1050. However, NVidia realeased the 8400GS series of cards to resolve this issue. As I am a nice person, I will let you have my 8400GS in exchange for your 8800GTX.

Just kidding - GTX is fine.
