Think-tank says 'downgrade Christmas'

I don't celebrate Christmas but because of muppets like that I intend to have the biggest, most tasteless and hopefully offensive to anyone that cares Chrimbo ever.

The IPPR are a bunch of commies intent on destroying all that is great about this country. Any idea they come up with should instantly be dismissed purely because they came up with it. Such other gems from these fools have been road pricing and bin weight pricing. Absolute ******* morons the lot of them. :mad:

yep, the date is a Roman wine festival and the Christmas tree and decorations is from a pagan festival.

some religious do-gooders don't celebrate Christmas either as they say it's like worshipping pagans :rolleyes: because it really means that to the people who celebrate it.
 
Anyone who agrees with this think tank is plain thick. I hope this dribble gets completely disregarded by everyone it's supposed to effect. :rolleyes::mad:
 
Exactly how are they proposing to "downgrade" Christmas. Currently the only difference between Christmas and other religious festivals in this country is that Christmas is a public holiday and a lot more people celebrate it.

If they wish to make other festivals public holidays that's fine by me, providing they don't get rid of any others. Apart from that, short of telling people not to celebrate Christmas I don't see there’s anything "they", or anyone else can do about it.

Why don't they stop wasting everybody’s time and just leave people alone to do what they decide for themselves.

My opinion is that people are emotionally forced, not encouraged, to try and enjoy themselves as that is societies outlook. The amount of stress and arguments that arise at Christmas time as everyone tries to get to see everyone else and get gifts etc far outweighs the benefit of doing so.

This is a post I left on the Daily Mail website about this, It annoys me so much. Whats worse is it's our government that are changing for immigrants, When most immagrants probably couldn't care less.

This is England, If there are people in this country who don't like our customs, Leave. We shouldn't change our ways to better suit people coming into the country. Christmas is the time of the year, Families come together and celebrate. To try and downsize that, You're taking away the small amount of culture we still have left. There are places in this world that still celebrate these other festivals. Britain Celebrates Christmas. Can you see these other places changing their culture and customs for us? England is becoming a door mat, Wipe your feet and come on in.

Anyways, I'd love to see them try and change anything to do with Christmas. They wouldn't have a prayer.
 
I for one would love to see the back of the current Christmas farce.

On the other hand I have no objection with a winter solstice celebration, perhaps a big get together for people we rarely see without the consumerism of buying presents etc.

'But it's for the kids' I hear you cry. Bullworks.

The reason Christmas is set to the Date it is, is so that in a few countrys ages and ages ago when there were Christians and Pagans in it they could both celebrate there celebration at the same time.

Or something like that:)
 
just because something may be a tradition to our country, or even customary, it does no make it necessary that the activity continues into our future.

For example, haloween, its now a tradition, but should we still run run it? or should we evaluate?

No its not right that we would be influenced by people from other countries with regards to this, but we have to be open to change for the better of our own country?
 
I'm glad I don't have a big family, I can use Christmas to relax and feed well, none of these constant parties either.
 
My family no longer really functions as a "family", so Christmas won't be a family affair again this year. In fact, as I split with my last girlfriend I'll probably spend it alone this year. Which will be fine by me. I'll see a few friends on Christmas Eve/Christmas day afternoon/Boxing day, it'll be quiet, and I'll have some peace. No parties, probably just the usual afternoon sherry on Christmas Day with my group of friends.
 
The ivory thing is that the Halloween is full of yob violences/crimes yet government's think-tank want to downgrade Christmas?!
