Ok then. This may seem like a weird post to be making but i need to be buying a powerful to be buying a powerful torch. I was wondering, what is the difference between a 2 D cell torch and a 3d cell torch?

Im presuming there is a big difference between D cell torches and AA cell torches as they are half the price.

Thanks for your help.

By the awy this torch isn't just for camping. I do all sorts of trecking etc and are sometimes going into the night hence needing to be a powerful torch to be able to see through things when im going through woods etc.

You can't go wrong with a Maglite, they are water proof and they don't break if you drop them they range from 1 AAA cell (not 100% though) to about a 6 D cell torch.

Also I think a couple AA cell head torch would be very good as well, i'm forever putting my tent up in the dark and they really help.

don't buy a maglite -they're underpowered compared to everything else. Do a search for torch - there are tons of threads on torches (seems to come up every six months) - some very good suggestions in each of them.

EDIT: see in particular this post in this thread and the whole of this thread.

get an led torch of egay from asia.

Water proof good solid cases, stupidly bright and battery's last days. Best thing is they cost about a £5inc delivery :).

Had mine 3 years and still going strong despite numerous festivals and camping trips. It's only a baby one but still very bright, but they have a whole range os sizes.

wow didn't expect many responces at all. Haha thanks guys

Is there much difference in light power between AA and D?

I really awnt to buy it tomorrow as ill be going out tomorrow night so not looking to buy off the net, every where i looked i can only find maglite though.

when i go out camping we oftern play man hunt in the dark at like 12 at night. Playing it a few days ago with 25 people and it got really foggy and the people with the powerful torchs really seem to be able to cut through the fog to see thoses hinding in the bushs.

You will want a torch with a yellow/orange filter on it if you want to have your torch cut through the fog:)

MMM sounds intresting that. Im not looking to spend loads of a light though.

I dont really know what sort of power i need. I need to to work in pitch black and work well in woods and through bushs etc so it needs to be bright. But i dont know if i can get away with a AA one or if i need a D one. 14 quid to 24 quid so if i can save 10 quid that would be nice.

so if a single led needs 3.6v and 50ma.

how many aaa battery's do you need to power each one. I'm so rusty on my electronics
am I right in saying that if a triple aaa battery is 1.5v and is rated at 1155 mA·h

you would need 3xaaa to power that one led and it would last 1155/50 = 23 hours.
