Hi,

I have been with zen for almost a year now on there 8000 active plan but i have started to look to see if i can get a faster service and was thinking of trying Be* unlimited but will i see much of a speed change, with zen i get 4meg because i think i am about 2.5k from the exchange so what sort of speed you i get with ADSL2+

if any one can give there comments on the Be* service i would appreciate it.

Hey Tony,

I live in maidenhead and am with be, but im a lot closer to the exchange than you, i get the full 24mb down and 1.3mb up.

Their service is excellent never had a problem with it. And for a change they seem to listen to the customer. Call center can be a mission. Based in India voice coms can be confusing for both parties but there we go. Email response is excellent they even text you to update you on whats going on, when your being billed and such.

A1 service in my eyes.

The BE call centre is not based in India, it is in Eastern Europe, Bulgaria.

For the OP, if you post your attenuation figures it is possible to give you some idea of your speed, but from what you've posted already the odds are it will be faster but not a lot.

I've been with Be* for the past 6 months (changed from virgin/ntl)

I only get just over 5 meg but it's very stable and touch wood has only gone off at the times they have told me would be routine maintanance.

I don't know your experiences with Zen but i would reccomend Be to anyone

OK thats odd, because i was chatting to someone in bagalore the other day on the phone to be, asked where they were from. Laughing about the weather and such and time difference.

I wonder if they are overflowing calls to India if Bulgaria is busy?

Either way, the ticket system they have is usually handled very quickly as is the best way to get most stuff taken care of.

They might have been from there originally but ALL Be support calls are dealt with in Sofia.

Sorry to poke my nose in but could someone cast an eye over my stats and tell me what the think I could expect from 'Be'

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8128 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 35 db 11 db
Noise Margin 6 db 22 db

Many thanks :)

Im in the same position. No problems with Zen, great isp but the 20gig cap is getting a bit tight. I get 3.5mb at the moment so would be pleased with anything more.

With ADSL24 atm but my current speed at 10pm tonight when I should start downloading off peak is 1.5 - 2meg which is pants as I sync at 8,128 so I may move over to 'Be' soon if things stay the same with ADSL24!

Can anyone comment of 'Be' gaming pings please....? I've heard their OK?

Re gaming pings.. Normally 9/10/11 ms to UK servers (I'm on Fastpath)

Going purely on the Att. (If reported correctly) I'd "guestimate" 12/13mbps.

looking at Google earth i am 1.7k from the exchange as the crow flies or 1.97k if i follow roads so what speeds should i expect from Be*

when you migrate from one supplier to another do you still lose your connection for a few weeks ?

Yea thats what I worked it out to be :) although pre sale speed checkers before said 5.5 on adsl max and I get 8meg + at time so it could go up :D

Going to ask for my MAC today and go for Be's £18 package I think ;) does their network have any slow downs at certain times of the day?

Also to lower your ping do you have fastpath on or off?

Nope.

Fastpath will offer lower pings than Interleave but obviously it's not suitable for every line.

Im a tiny bit further than you, just under 2km as the crow flies.
I have two friends on same exchange who live closer and get roughly proportionatly better speeds...

My bebox says

D/L 10.5/11meg depending on what mood its in.
U/L 1/1.3 meg

My friends says

D/L ~13meg

My other friend who lives about 500 yards from exchange and for some reason insits that designer OFC phone extensions are as good as ethernet syncs at

D/L 19meg

I think he could get more if he sorted his wires out, he was on 18 meg untill I pluged him into the test socket, a free meg woo hooo.
The bar-steward.;)
