:p

Morning All, time for my question of the morning, in a couple of months my insurance renewal is coming round, and hopefully i'll have my first years NCB, new presumably the NCB goes on and only get a cert if I ask to move insurers?

Secondly, I presume unless I tell my insurance company they will just roll the policy over?

Im considering doing a little more shopping around, but dont fancy moving because of the deposit im likley to pay, but is it worth going to insurers and getting other quotes to go to direct line with to get a cheaper renewal?

deposite?

Don't let it run over, cancel it in advance, they will charge you horrendous amounts. They always do. Assuming people wont bother shopping around.

Just look in the sticky few threads up and phone all the insurance companies up, then go with the cheapest.

I pay over the year, I cant afford to pay the £1,600 straight up, im hoping it will drop to about 1k but its still too much for my to pay off at once.

I was considering perhaps getting it on a 0% Credit card or something and just paying the card off?

yep credit card is what you want, a lot of insurance companys offer to spread it out but all charge you for it, so even oif you don't get a credit card you can still shop around.

But a credit card with 12months interest free on purchases is what you want. Idea situation to use it for.

I have to question how you are affording to run a nice new car and live if you cant afford a random bill of a grand though, can you not just increase your overdraft, pay it and live light for the month to cover it or something?

Anyway yeah, a 0% credit card would be a good idea, or failing that even a bank loan would be preferable.

Because as Fox will no doubt say, I prefer to work things out Monthly lol. Its just that insurance is still a sting because im only 19.

My wages only come out at around £1,000 a month, the achilies heel as it were is that I am still living at home, if I went into my overdraft like that I prolly wouldnt be able to get out easily, hence why im considering the credit card thing as it would be viable on the monthly payments rather than getting slapped with 30 odd percent actually on the insurance.

Edit: plus the car itself is on a bank loan..

Living at home, you really should be able to save yourself up a grand if its a couple of months before your renewal date!

Remember to get a new quote from Direct Line as if you were a new customer, the results may suprise and shock you!

Just had my renewal through, its dropped by a 400 quid form £922 to £522. Did a quick look around, but they are still the cheapest :)

very shocked with that, have you tried a new quote with them?

Lets have a go.. 1 min

Coming out still at £1,141.35, thats with 20.1% APR Slapped on... with my mum on there it comes out @ £1,201ish, and she has had her licence 3+ Years.

Living at home isn't always a given for free!! What he spends his cash on is his business but think about it - take home 1000 - say 150 a month insurance, 350 car loan say, petrol + living - slap in a bit of rent to the folks and you don't have the much left at the end of month.

Also as I found out (they told me this when I renewed) that if you jump from company to company you get a better price as they give in effect an introductory discount. So long as you can sort out the proof of no claims (should be a no brainer) you can probably save a bit more irrespective by 'jumping ship'.

Good luck I know how (and it was a long time ago) crippling insurance was as a nooby driver.

If you do switch companies, do it online and use www.quidco.com. They are a affiliate site, and some insurance companies give you £70-£90 just to sign up with them

Well, my outgoings with fuel/insurance comes to about £900, so still lives me with £100 or so, and plus another £100 if I need to go into my O/D, my outgoings would be be about £800 if I didnt go into my overdraft, but some months I need to, I dont go out a lot, maybe 2 or 3 times a month, and £100 is enough for me to do what I want.

This is the table for an average Month

Car Repayments, £273
Insurance, £136
Fuel, £120 ish
Rent to my parents, £200
Phone Bill is around £40
Sky is £15
Overdraft normally about £50, plus £12 charges so out and around £8/900 or so

So I still have about £200 from 1k, plus my O/D if I need it. IE for car repairs. So hence why the Credit card is prolly gonna be the better choice me thinks.

Just going through other insurers getting quotes online, I will ring them closer to the date, just trying to see if I can get it under 1k

Just get a £1k loan, I prefer it over a credit card as I'm not that good at paying stuff back unless i HAVE too :p

Also my renewal was the cheapest I could find too which was only £30 cheaper than last year! Churchill beat it actually... by £1 (part of their promise). What's the ****ing point in that?! Heh.

I dont know how on earth you manage with less than 100 quid left at the end of the month to buy stuff. Where does money for random cash withdrawls for food and stuff come from? Dont you think you are stretching yourself a tad?

Not really tbh m8

I can easily cope with £100/£150 a month, I buy clothes an bits and peices when I need to, food and stuff comes from home, my parents supply me with food stuff, even when i dont I just pop to ASDA or Tesco and get something small... I dont eat an awfull lot... that much takes me out when i want to, most of my social life involves my car either way, ie Pub meets and runs etc. If im caught short... I have my savings to dip into.

Edit: and most of the time when i do overtime, I can get upto around £300 extra, so a good £100 of that goes straight in my ISA.

Just think, coming to say the RR day would cost an entire months spare cash for just one day out after extra fuel, food and run costs
