I will hopefully be in the situation to sell my Z-5400's for the price I bought them for, so I have been looking for the best upgrade option?

I must say I have thought about setting up a proper 5.1 setup buying the whole system seperatly, but I have been very impressed with the ease of setup and the sound quality of the 5400's

One option is to change to the 5450's, althought exactly the same spec as the 5400's, would mean I won't have to have as many wires trailing about. The other two options I have been looking at are the Z-5500's and the Creative Gigaworks G550W. I will be using the system for DVD's/Blue Ray/Games through my PS3 via an optical cable and also from my HTPC through a coaxial cable.

Thanks for any advice.

You wont get a 'proper' 5.1 system for that kind of money, not even second hand. Your pretty much limited to the 'PC Speaker' type systems, The Z5500's get good reviews from people who havent listened to any high end audio setup.

My suggestion if you only have £200 budget... dont listen to any high end setups... if you do you'll be wanting to take a loan :P Its a never ending battle to get better sound :)

Get an amp and 2 speakers. I went from megaworks 550 to Cambridge A1 and Mission M71 (think they are 71s) and i have never looked back.

They are 100 times better

Good point, a simple 2 channel system should be possible in that budget and still improve on a PC 5.1 system.

I already have some Sony seperates with Tannoy M1's so stereo is fine.

The speakers will just be for Games/DVD's/Blu Ray :)

I'd suggest, and going against the grain here - get a decent PC speaker set up. Some of the logitechs have insane SPL's for something so small/specialist and would certainly kick the required buttocks for a movie. Home Cinema All-In-One (which is what you'd be looking at - they're the only thing in budget) units are generally grossly underpowered and almost blow their own subwoofer as soon as there is an action scene in a movie!

whereas pc speakers are week in virtually every area. power is nothing control...who said that?...anyway..... the mgith get somewhere near reference level but they wont sound pretty getting there.

no, pc speaker have a job and do it very well too for the cost of them. but its a waste if he's looking for an upgrade from pc speakers to go and buy more of them:)
