What is Operation Christmas Child?

This annual project enables caring individuals, families, schools, churches, businesses, and other organisations to fill ordinary shoe boxes with small toys, school supplies, sweets, and other gifts for needy children around the world. Operation Christmas Child sends a message of hope to children in need around the world through gift-filled shoe boxes.

This is a charity I try to help with every year and although it may seem early, they need the boxes to be delivered at Christmas. Run by the Samaritan's it is the world's largest children's Christmas project. It doesn't cost very much although the difference you can make is priceless. :)

Details of what to pack, how to pack and where to deliver can be found here!

Is it not wrong to force our religious beliefs onto poor kids in other countries? ;)

We do this at school, i normally try to do one but i never get round to it. No excuse either :(

Last year now so ill try my hardest to get one done :D

Cycling team is doing it so I will also be contributing :)

I remember doing something similar in primary school, had forgotten about the scheme till recently.

I'm always in two minds about this as they put religious material into every box explaining the "real meaning of Christmas", it's a bit underhanded imo. There are organisations that do this without trying to force christianity onto people.

Underhanded? We're called to witness. They can take it or leave it.

we prefer to do something more local. there is always a company doing a collection for toys that will goto local disadvantaged children.
you get given the name of the child (drawn from a hat type thing) and age, from that you can make a better decision as to what to buy the child. they ask that you spend no more than £10, but thats quite hard tbh.
you wrap the present up and take it back to the company, they take it to the child, to be opened on xmas morning.

poor children :/
