Hyundai W240D The best choice

This monitor seems to be rather understated. Okay, it has a TN panel but users who have bought it seem to rave about it.

The 2407-HC has ghosting issues and no HDMI
The BenQ is nice, but fiddly button on the side and input switching lag.
The Samy 245B, not enough inputs - no HDMI and 245T too expensive

What's left?....the W240D! (appart from a few other 245B equivalents!)

It seems to have everything...but so far, I have seen no professional reviews. Stock levels on various retailers sites are dropping fast so, I guess people are catching on.

Any negative views on this monitor?

Hi there

Yes the W240D is a very special monitor and is indeed very good.

For those who worry about viewing angles we are actually getting a PVA version of the panel in about 2-3 weeks time which will cost more.

I got mine about a week ago, and its the best computer screen Ive ever used - altho upgrading from an old 19" anything would be better lol.

It displays the full HD really well, and the added bonus of an HDMI slot makes connecting a HD DVD player/PS3/X360e, easy and able to run at 1080p.

No negative comments from me atm :D

thank you to OcUK for this ace screen! ;):D

Matt.

i bet your looking at another £100 more
im in the same position as you vortex . i passed on the sm 245b not enough inputs and not very good rescaling ( apparently ).

the sm 245t too expensive

with the dells i was worried about ghosting .so i keep comming back to the w240d
im trying to do as much research as pos because this has got to last me. i dont mind spending £500 on a monitor but the hyundai seems to have the best bang for buck.

cheers

The only problem here is Hyundai's rubbish "on-site warranty" I bought a W320D 32" TV from OCUK and had to wait two weeks for it to be taken away and repaired! in addition the warranty service is passed on to a third party

With my Dell 2407WFP A04 that had a power button fault Dell I called them at 4pm and next day they sent new replacement so for me it's the Dell I have the HC and I can't find fault with it

This is a significant concern.....almost enough to go for the Dell and forget the lack of HDMI and ghosting issues!!

I've got a W240D and it's a good monitor.

Negatives:

- Limited viewing angles (as per any other TN panel)
- Colour reproduction is not totally accurate
- Stock colour/contrast/brightness settings are woefully poor... but nothing 5 minutes of tinkering can't sort

Positives:

- Cost
- Size
- Stands adjustability - height change and tilt function work very smoothly
- Connections (had plenty of fun using my gamecube on the monitor)
- Panel speed (little to no noticeable ghosting in a few of the FPS i own)
- Contrast is pretty good even with brightness set super low
- Most importantly i can't detect any input lag :D

As stated above the stock colour and contrast is terrible. I knocked brightness right down to its base level too as i was getting rather sunburnt!

After sorting all the levels the image turns out to be rather good. No dead pixels either! ;)

Finally, as a comparison it's pretty much on a par with my 226BW although i believe the colour is slightly more saturated.

I'd happily recommend it. :)

Do any of you guys think it would be worth paying the extra for the PVA version, gonna be used for PC gaming and PS3 gaming, i won't need to view it at any other angle than head-on...

Hi there

TN panels have very poor vertical viewing angles, especially when looking up at them. However if you are gonna be looking at it level and head-on then go for the TN version.

The PVA versions have better viewing angles, unknown as to any other improvements at the moment but one thing for sure is the new Hyundai's are going to get very popular as they really have got a great product on their hands. :)

Cheers Gibbo, i'll definately be taking one off your hands before christmas, i'll probably end up going with the PVA version, as for PS3 use i'll probably lounge around when playing/playing back some Blu-ray films, so i will be looking at it from some obscure angles afterall. :)

I've just got a W240D but have not had a chance to set it up yet. I have to admit to being a bit concerned about the viewing angle issue. I have used TN based LCD monitors in the past and have not noticed anything that bad in them. I guess the problem with reading forums like this is that these sort of problems are blown out of all proportions.

Still I'm looking forward to trying it out with my Xbox 360 and my computer. Glad there are some people who think it is a good display I couldn't find any reviews on it before I bought it which also caused some concern.

cromulent i hope you will be pleasently surprised . let us know because im looking at 1 of these before christmas . also what do they scale like because i dont think ill be playing crysis@ 1900x1200 so ill be dropping the res a tad.

cheers

As far as i'm concerned this screen has some of the nicest scaling i've seen!

Ran a 3DMark06 test earlier and thought it was running a higher res than 1280x1024.

thats the kind of reply i was hoping for gt . does anyone else who owns one of these tried a lower res.

cheers
