GTS 640 to GT 512?

I bought myself a new computer 4 months ago with a GTS 640. Since then I purchased a dell 2407wfp and I love it.. but the GTS can't cope at all i've discovered. I was thinking - all the benchmarks show the GT beating the GTS a fair bit in higher resolution benchmarks. Is it worth trying to sell the GTS? If so how much do you think I should bother with? £130-150?

Another angle is maybe trying SLI and buy up another cheap GTS.. but it seems SLi is never a reliable option.

What do you guys think? Worth it at all? I don't play on playing Crysis etc all that much but i notice that even in current games the gts struggles.

GTS 640 to GT 512

Recently made this change - the new card does seem to be a little more powerful , runs a little cooler and is a LOT smaller - one slot not 2 ; sli will be easier to fit if I decide to go there.
But that xtra ram on 640 might prove more important (not worrying for me at the moment as running 1650 x 1050).
Overall I'm glad I changed for reasons above and because it only didn't cost me a lot to change.:D
If you can get a good price for the 640 I would/did go for it.
 
At 1920x1200 res, wait for the new G92 GTS cards. Should be here before Christmas, amd supposedly match 8800Ultra speeds.

An 8800GT is not that much better than a cuurent 8800GTS 640 (I know, I've played with both).

The GT is a lot faster then the GTS untill you add AA. In some games likecrysis demo it will cripple the GT due to it only being 256bit memory interface.

I would hate for you to get a car that does 10MPH faster than your old one. I can just imagine the conversation. :p

To be fair though it's a lot faster than your 320mb model but it's fairly close with the 640Mb model.

Its even a lot faster than the 640mb version, unless your saying the 640mb GTS is about on par with a GTX, if so then why was anyone ever buying the GTX when it was released same time as the GTS last November, absolutely no point.:p

Yes it's a bit faster but it's a lot closer than your old 320mb model.

I was just taking the mick mostly anyway as I'm sure I've seen you say the move to the x1800 annihilated your old card. Then the same with your GTS and now the GT too hehe.

You should play around with words more often so it doesn't look like your saying things just for the sake of it :).

His GTS320 "cut through everything maxed like butter", but also annihilated the x1800xt

I can only imagine as time has gone on he has been buying harder and harder butter, or sticking it in the freezer or summat.

Found my XFX xxxExtreme OC Edition GTS 640MB much faster than the smaller 512MB GT in benchmarks.....:D People with GTS especially the OC versions are better off waiting until the new G92's arrive for a definate performance increase...;):cool:

Can't cope at all? Err, wtf are you on?

Been running a GTS 640 at 1920x1200 for six months with no problems at all.
