2900XT to 8800GT

Those guys that are considering selling their 2900's do it now, i sold my XT and got a GT and its the smartest move i have ever made, put the 2900 on the bay, there is always some muppet that pays over the odds, the XT's are still fetching up to £180 most of the time.

did you notice some diference ? by seiching and what kind of diference ?

Good advice if you can go a little while without gaming "How it's meant to be played" :D.

Out of interest. What card are you running whilst waiting Vertigo?.
Radeon X300!

Not so much "running" as "stumbling" tbh.

Ran 3dMark06 on it for a laugh and scored 300! :D

ROFLMAO!!!

Oh wait. Erm is my 9800Pro any better than your X300?. It's what I'll have to use as well as a single core but overclocked San Diego 3700+ if my m8 takes his GTX back any time soon. I can just play Call of Duty for some online fun.

I'll put mine on as soon as I find out if it will work in a PCI-E 1.0 slot (not 1.0a). Could anyone be so kind enough to enlighten me on this subject please?.

Suprisingly its not lol... im in the same boat, but ive got an BFG 8800gt OC in my hand, just can't decide whether to send it back or use it lol. With me a have i shouldn't spend money unless i can justify the reason for buying it. My issue is my 2900xt is great, all games run lovely. But if the review with anandtech is anything to go by, the 8800GT kicks its arse lol.

Would it be possible to put the BFG OC2 bios on the OC? Is it the same hardware? Thanks folks.

Yeah, the bay is surprisingly quiet . I thought it would be bombed already.

Oh and about your GT/XT problem. It's simple. Drivers removed, delete ATI folder, safe mode and run driver sweeper. Newest 169.04's and you should be laughing. Well at least give it a bash  ,

You rig is like exactly the same as mine was but yours has a bigger monitor, is all games really smooth like for example does most of your games run with high AA? HL2:EP2 with 8xMSAA?

Just sold my 7950GX2 for £140 on the bay so got a reasonable return on my original outlay 5 months ago (£160). Gonna put it towards a BFG 8800GT or hang on till end of month and see how the GTS is priced.

HL2:EP2 runs everything maxed out, but other games don't run that well with AA on :S... doesn't the 2900 series dislike AA lol?

I put the GT in my machine and its a beast, crysis ran on high settings at res of 1920x1200 with around 25-30fps, which was awesome looked stunning and played very playable.

Ive just got an issue to sort with my P5N-E mobo now, ethernet port light which is usually green is now red, so my connection to the web is balls'd up... my thoughts is its buggered lol.

Might I ask why you really need to? Any game I've tried the 2900XT plays with perfectly playable framerates. I would save your money until you actually need to upgrade. I don't see any game coming out in the forseeable future that will push the 2900XT beyond its capabilities.

If he sells his 2900XT then he's practically losing absolutely nothing, and the GT rips it in all the benchmarks I've seen so there's no reason at all not to switch. Not to mention the GT is cooler and single slot.

If I think it is worth selling my GTX for a GT then you can bet your hat I think it's worth selling a 2900XT. :)

Bit of an exaggeration....

When a 2900Pro/XT and 8800GT are o/c, the 8800GT can perform better in most benchmarks by 10-15%, however that is hardly "ripping it apart"....:)

Not ripping it apart no, but its still an improvement, an awsome upgrade for me it was coming from a 2900 to this.

Is it possible to sell a 2900XT second hand for the same price as a 8800GT anymore?

Course it is on the bay, some "noob" will buy it.

The guy who bought my 2900 bought it mainly for watching movies in his PC lol.

You might want to quote the whole sentence, I said "I've seen."

I mean come on it wasn't even a ninja edit, try harder.

Edit: (See, a real one.) Going on the benchmarks I've been looking at, the 2900XT is way behind when you take price into account. Not to mention the whole heat/size/power thing which is why I am selling my GTX.

The only thing the 2900XT matches it in there is Half Life 2 and that's CPU limited, otherwise you have to get into daft resolutions which is where the efficient memory interface of the 2900XT shows advantages.

If your mobo is buggered I've got the same mobo sitting doing nothing if you want to put in an offer for it :p

Yea the 2900 suffered BIG TIME with AA on, HL2 EP2 was unsatisfactory with 8xMSAA and not that good with 4xMSAA, but the 8800GT 16xQCSAA and its smooth as!

Its allready pushed beyond its capabilitys as far as AA is concerned :D, the 8800GT was a much needed upgrade, 2900 was loud and annoying, plays games crappy.

2900 owners who want good performance in games, sell up now, the card is depreciating heavily in price everyday since the GT came out. The GT is the card to own at this current time, one of many examples is C0D4, on the 2900 it was crap with 2XAA, "well i thought it was actually fine until i got my GT" The GT eats it for fun with 4xAA, you will not be disappointed.;)
