Hi,

Just been out to bleed my brakes and during bleeding i noticed that my front passenger side tyre is wearing unevenly, the innder edge is not far of the wear markers were as the outer edge is all fine and dandy. The drivers side tyre is also fine with no uneven wear at all.

Is it just a simple job of getting the tracking done? (although tracking seems fine to me)or is it likely to start costing me mega money?

cheers, Russ

lol yup bled at 1am. cant beat a bit of that fresh early morning air, makes you get a move on when doing a job :P

when i first got my st the two front tyres were worn right to the canvas on the very inside edge of both front tyres! i put it in for a 4 wheel alignment and the front and rear toe was out.

After speaking to a few other focus owners this appears to be quite normal (the tyre wear, not the toe being out :))

I'd get the tracking checked first, complete 4 wheel including camber just to make sure everything is within spec.

any idea of cost to get 4 wheel tracking and camber done? ive heard st170's eat front tyres anyway, although this is a little daft theyre only about 5months old lol

Good news....Just been to a garage, problem was diagnosed as tracking, as under closer inspection the drivers side tyre was also wearing unevenly, although wasn’t as noticeable due to there being more tread on the tyre in the first place.

So 4 wheel laser alignment done which will have hopefully cured the problem. Bad news is I need at least 1 new front tyre, also due 2 rear tyres soon so might replace all 4 and keep the one decent front tyre as a spare. Also need new disks and pads all round as well...bloody typical lol

Finally my car also used to have a whining sound when doing between 50 and 70 more noticeable on a smooth road surface...that’s now also near enough gone after having the tracking done so 2 birds 1 stone n all that.

Thanks for all your help and advice :)

29.99 for 4 wheel laser align is pretty good.

mine was 55+vat for 4 wheel inc camber/castor. plus 150 per corner for michelin PE2s :(

including camber and castor? what do you drive? these places blag a lot, practically no cars have adjustable castor anyway.

i asked at the garage how much for avon zz3's...they wanted £115 a corner. found a guy who can get the same zz3's for £50, asked him to price me some eagle f1's up :D
