Alonso to leave McLaren

All the speculation over who is going to replace Alonso at McLaren is missing somthing. Who is going to want to take his seat? There is still every chance of Mclaren being thrown out of the 2008 season. Bit of a risk signing for a team who might not even be racing.

I think there will be massive fallout if McLaren are going to be excluded.

Mosely/the FIA have already explicitly said that they won't find a part directly from the Ferrari parts bin on the McLaren car and that they will be looking for "ideas" instead. How far they will go remains to be seen, but it's not too hard to imagine them saying: "Ooh look, you've got wings on your car. Ferrari has them too. You're out!"

I'm exaggerating obviously (or am I?) but as the "ideas" are open to interpretation by the examiner, nothing will be a clear cut yes/no, you have/haven't broken the rules, they couldn't possibly impose a massive penalty on McLaren.....oh, wait.....

But excluding them from the season for maybe, just maybe, having a possible idea from the Ferrari car that was stolen from the dossier rather than normal inter-team espionage with cameras at race tracks (how to prove one way or the other?).... That is surely impossible.

If they are excluded from the 2008 season, I think Ron will quite rightly accuse the FIA of victimisation, the leave F1 altogether. Hamilton's already said he doesn't like this whole spygate/scapegoating scandal thing, and he'll leave if that's the way it's going to be... So F1 will lose one of it's biggest teams, and the newboy who's brought more excitement and British interest in the sport than it's had for the last 10 years.

They can't/won't do that.... or will they.... The FIA are so screwed up recently that anything's possible.

We all know it's just an idle threat, had Alonso said that then everyone would be screaming at him "throwing the toys out.."
There's as much chance of Hamilton leaving F1 as there is me going into the 2nd Mclaren seat for 2008.

Edit: lol @ Ralf Schumacher even getting a mention in the same sentence as "mclaren race seat" :D

Its amazing isnt it - on this board at least there is double standard in place where anything Hamilton done is fine and dandy. Alonso, on the other, hand is being portrayed as a very bad person indeed. Some on this board even call him a cheat; how he cheated I have no idea.

Its interesting that reading the comments on BBC.co.uk website about Alonso, they are actually taking his side and dissapointed in the way he has been treated by the McLaren team (ie. scapegoat).

Yep. I think Hamilton has become extremely big-head, extremely quickly. Next year should be interesting to see just how he copes in a car that may not be so quick. We shall also see just how good he is at setting up his car and getting the maximum out of it, without any assistance from Alonso.

.
So asking for the weight distribution from Ferrari is not cheating?

come on if it wasn't for Alosno, the engineer and the document. Mclaren wouldn't of been find or stripped of there points.

 Where's De La Rosa in this? He had far more to do with it. As far as I remember, Alonso didn't directly ask for it, he was informed that they knew the weight distro of the Ferrari. Then DLR decided (so he says) that they wouldn't bother testing it as it was so radically different.

I think at the end of the day it's a case of, if it wasn't for Ron Dennis, Couglan, Stepney, DLR, Alonso and a raft of others then they wouldn't have been fined or stripped of points.

I thought one of Alonsos emails, specifically asked about the weight distribution. it doesn't matter if it was used or not.

I believe most of the team wouldve known, otherwise it wouldve become a massive operation in itself to cover up information from your own colleagues.

3 things happened here: they were naughty, Couglan got caught being naughty, a few people admitted to being naughty. Not much you can do if you are caught, but nobody should ever have admitted anything. If Alonso threatened to report McLaren (which I doubt he would ever have done as it wouldve derailed his own season), they shouldve let him. Any/all emails relating to this issue shouldve been wiped. Then if FIA questioned McLaren, all the employees shouldve shrugged their shoulders and said, "Sorry Guv, I dont know what Fernando's talking about." at this point Alonso should have been sacked and sectioned for making up stories.

PDLR wont get any flak because he wasnt competing against Hamilton.

De La Rosa said they had it, I think, and I'm sure the reply was something like "we should definately try it..." At the hearing DLR said they didn't use it as it was too different from what the Mclaren used.*
Massively uninteresting in my eyes, I bet all the teams have similar cheating going on. (As said though, they don't get caught :D )

*Does anyone have the pdf on them, I can't get it at work but it definately had all e-mail conversations.

Well, Alonso knew what was going on, as did most of the McLaren team (IMO). If you have access to that information, why not ask about it?

And who knows what Hamilton mightve asked, regarding the Ferrari's. He never admitted anything, but that doesnt mean he wasnt upto is eyeballs in it. Remember, he is a team player and wants to do what's right for the team. ;)

Simple fact is there where only a few people implicated by the emails. It wasn't ron Dennis or Hamilton. They must be pretty stupid to ask about weight distribution in the first place, the cars are so diffrent it would have meant nothing to them.

Indeed. They werent foolish enough to admit to anything. And any emails/evidence that implicated was probably burnt.

This is what struck me as a little strange too. What works for Ferrari wont necessarily work for McLaren, as the 2 cars are not identical.
