Ive decided im going to buy a amp and speakers for my pc setup, instead of buying computer speakers like the Logitech Z5500

Im after a 5.1 setup but i dont really want to spend to much over £200

Do you think the Yamaha Av61 is good enough?

Yep i dont have a clue when it comes to home audio:confused:

Or if £200 wasn't going to get me a good 5.1 setup i might have to think about going 2.1

£200 will get you a decent, budget second hand seperates system. Or a new stereo integrated amp with second hand standmount speakers.

Something like Nad 320 BEE at £150, and Kef Q15's at £50. That'll blow away a £200 PC 5.1 or PC 2.1 system and that Yamaha Av61 for sound quality. In a smaller room (well in a any room, but it'll be worse in a smaller room) you don't want a low quality boomy subwoofer. You can always upgrade to 5.1 with the extra speakers, subwoofer and a av amp for the remaining channels/multi-channel processing.

Thanks for your reply

There is one thing i dont want to do is go second hand,I would rather spend a bit more than going second hand

Nothing wrong with second hand, if it's looked after (and ex-demo) Most of my poweramps are second hand as are my centre, sides, rears, pre-amp, av pre-amp. Savings in four figures.

Some Hi-Fi shops offer 12 month warranty in demo/second hand traded in gear. if I sold you my (I'm not just giving an example) B&W 601's for £80 that's a £120 saving for you straight away. Mechanically they're perfect.

Yes very true about second hand if its kept well, the only way i would buy anything second hand is if it was a ex-demo

So by reading its not good to get a all in one system

So lets say i would have £200 to spend on a 5.1 amp would it be possible to get a good amp out of this money?

And then of course the 5.1 speakers how much for good ones?

Of course Boomy would not sound good in a bedroom, infact i hate boomy subs

Are you saying you could afford more now ?

If so, the Onkyo entry level HDMI 5.1 reciever ( can't think of model number.. is it 505 ? ) would set you back £250. Great amp.

As for speakers, you could go for a speaker package, such as q acoustics 5.1 1010's. These are £500, and they would match the amp perfectly.

200 to spend on a 5.1 amp would it be possible to get a good amp out of this money?

Not really. There are budget av amps at £200 new but I wouldn't recommend them, I would say spend £350 on av amp. £200 will get you a budget stereo integrated amp which'll beat (in sound quality) a much more expensive av amp, including the £350 one.

As for 5.1, look at £350-£400 for the subwoofer, and another £500/£600 for the 5 speakers. That price bracket will get you one up from budgets (and HTIB) but well worth it, quantum leap for sound and build quality.

In a smaller room you might not even need a subwoofer, on my PC setup I certainly don't.

Since you're on budget I'd get a stereo system for now. If price is no limit, and you want good stereo and 5.1 then I'd recommend stereo amp + av amp or av pre-amp + poweramps.

I have a £200 yamaha AV amp and a £250 yamaha 5.1 speaker package which I bought new about 2 years ago and they do everything and more that I need. Yes its an entry level system but I dont have £2k+ to spend.

Id like to drive an Aston Martin but I doubt I ever will, I love to drive an Audi RS4 but at the minute I cant afford it so I will make do with my more than capable Astra and its the same with my AV equipment :)
