Hi guys.

So my xbox gets 3 rings of death...... so i use my brothers whilst hes away.

Take it from his room and plug my HDD into it and memory card. I plug my wireless card into it.

Sign into my profile but no XBOX LIVE.

I do a test and everything passes. It then comes up to the ICMP test and takes a while but passes that.... but when it does the XBOX LIVE test it fails.... it says i can view the info why its failed but it is blank.

I thought it could be my wireless card but then i thought it worked fine 10 minutes ago on my other 360....

So i plugged my ethernet cable in and it still didnt work.

Any ideas..... my router is fine on my pc just xbox live is dead now :(

I can also conenct via xbox.com.... so god knows what to do.

the banned consoles fail at the xbox live test bit and give an error code. not a message saying "you've been banned".

hmmm... i have a mate who modified his and then changed back.... two weeks later after he bought halo3 he tried to conenct and he got a message from xbox live saying his console was banned.

yup its banned! wtf! i phoned microsoft and they have banned it.

Thats ridiculous!

Really? I beg to differ, but this isn't the time or place to go into specifics.

Banned console, end of. Either buy a new one or wait for MS to send yours back.

There's no conclusive proof yet, but I really would NOT put it past Microsoft to blackmark your username (and/or your brothers) to be on some kind of watch list for the future.

Hmm, I've tried setting my xbox live up a few times and ran the test and its failed, even though everything is plugged in fine. Would like to get that sorted to benefit from the Marketplace

where is your console failing lolism?

Just ran another test there, getting "Disconnected" I run a cable through the wall to bring a cable from my router into my Room, but it doesn't reach so I use an RJ45 coupler to connect the cable from my router to the cable from the Xbox, seems to work fine if I plug it into the computer, not sure whats wrong :/

Well if his console really has not been opened then surely he has some grounds to be upset about them banning his machine?

As per my post, I don't think it's the right thread to go into the specifics.

I don't think Microsoft will have said "It's banned" and given no reason, so there must be a reason behind the ban which hasn't been made public.

Just because the console hasn't been opened doesn't exclude it from a ban.

If it's a genuine mistake, then I'm sure Microsoft would have picked this up, althought I don't belive they have the ability to restore the console once it's been bricked.

Either way, none of us know apart from the OP what really happened, and if it's banned for a legitimate reason, I've got zero remorse. :)

No me either :D

MS should ban the live accounts too, and maybe make the console switch itself off at random intervals when they catch a pirate :D, but yeah probably best not to get into it.

if they ban the live accounts people will feel less need to buy a new machine.

That would be bad for business as all the pirates would just play offline. they want to entice pirates into buying a new console and playing legitimately by keeping their XBL accounts.

It would be good for business as if the pirates really want to play on Live (which I doubt, as free games are more important to them) then they would buy a new console and a new account, and then off course buy some games.
