WHAT is a lot?????

why does it bother you a lot when i do post here ,is this not a public forum so what gives you the right to tell me not to post ? Maybe you should take a hard look at yourself and decide if you really want me not to post or do you like me that much(i feel the love):D

I guess it was too subtle :(

I was demonstrating how weak your point is in that it can be easily be turned around and used on you. I love you really, honest.

Oooohhhhhh it's the "getting rightseous"now is it?
Last time I heard that used was way back in 1968 when I was a biker.
For your info I mangle the"queens"English on porpoise.......I mean poipose eeerrrrr purpose.
I like to butcher the English on purpose..........
same as when I go into a pub where nobody knows me...........I mix Spanish and German together(spoken with a Southern drawl) just to confuse them.

So you can talk like a cretin, but others can't? :p

That's not why people do it though is it? Besides, one space's worth of time saved in writing or typing 'a lot' rather than 'a lot' really isn't worth making a new word that makes no sense grammatically.

Again, no it's not: 'a lot' means that you have a quantity of something that we call a 'lot', and that it's in the singular (from the singular article 'a'). It's also grammatically correct in that you have a noun preceded by an article, usually followed by whatever it's quantifying. If you turn it into a single word, however, you not only remove that meaning but also break the sentence grammatically.

Where did I say that spelling should match pronunciation?

You realise that modern english breaks dozens of old grammar rules from ye olde english?

Why is this bad but that not?

A lot of retards seem to feel that they can post any old **** that they got away with at school and then justify their lack of knowledge as " it's evolving, innit?" or " it's the intarweb, ffs!" type comments.

None of us are perfect and there are times when the old fingers hit the keys in the wrong order or whatever but FFS! take responsibility for your use of the language; I was never very good at English but I would not employ 90% of the posters here, simply because they cannot use the correct words. I mean, **** the spelling, get the word right first....

We all complain about standards and how those in authority should do better etc ...... it's ****s who are severely deficient in their understanding of English that are getting into positions of power that should should be stopped.

Can you people not see how this really is quite important?

It is not an English exam, or punctuation test etc but when an arresting officer writes the charge sheet out in the manner embraced by some people here, I guess that they would be the first to jump on the bandwagon ......

/calma!

Change rules if there's a sensible reason, sure. Don't if there isn't :)

I certainly wouldn't regard ignorance/extreme laziness as a sensible reason for changing a language's rules of grammar.

Correct. This isn't language developing, it's complete apathy to sense.
