Hi,

Just landed a decent job after a year of tedious roles...

So all is great barr the fact I can only smoke at lunchtime...

Its my second week at the job and bizarely last week I never thought about it - ok perhaps I did but it wasn't an issue...

Today was difficult though, not only am I learning their procedures of working but not being able to smoke is proving to be difficult - well today it was..

job is a very hands on role, I feel even after 1 week they can see my potential but also the fact how quickly I have picked things up means I have a lot more in the tank etc etc..

Anyway, this was discussed at the interview that smoking was only allowed during lunch and that there are no tea breaks etc...

What would you do? I thought I would give up some of my lunch break in order to have a quick smoke at 11am and 3pm as well as lunch...

I really do like the job,

Please help?

Give up not only will you save cash and improve your health but it also means you dont have to slink off for a fag throughout the day
 
Erm if you didn't smoke you wouldn't be having a break. what's so different about people that smoke and ones that don't.

Take you fag at dinner time and be done with it.
 
I know a law firm allows the employees to have a smoking break a few times a day, but you take it out of your lunch hour. So take 3 x 10 mins break for a fag, you'll get 30 mins for lunch. Perfectly reasonable to me.

What ever you do dont go sloping off for that fly fag - it's not worth risking your new well liked job over, also am pretty sure all your other non smoking workmates will smell it on you a mile away.

Like many others have said before - treat this as the ideal oppertunity to stop smoking. You'll reap the benefits i can assure you ;)
 
Where i work they are talking about taking it away. (lucky get one at 10:30 and 3:30)

explain to the boss (on a social level) that allowing you to have 2x 5min breaks divides the day up and makes you feel 10x better, and that your sure other smokers would feel that same and that your willing to take the time taken (10mins) off your lunch break.

Might get you no where - but worth a shot :)

appreciate the comments, but quitting is not an option...

as previously said I am willing to take the time out of my lunch break...

I dont take 10min smoking breaks, more like 2mins....

But to be realistic I would take 2 x 5min breaks so its fair on the non smokers...

Funny thing is , the accounts lady who works 1 day a week has 2 smoking breaks, so c'mon thats not particularly fair is it...

I dont want to quit at the moment, just wanted some sympathy I guess especially as I said I would make up the time by having shorter lunch breaks...
