Just wondering, how long are tyres ment to last?

My car is a cooper s (picture in sig ¬_¬) and i have just had 2 new front tyres put on, this is like the 5th set of tyres in 2 years?

They are pirelli runflats - no idea which ones but set me back £125 a corner, thats fitted.

Can always tell when they have gave out, the car pulls to one side, generally the left side always.

Pirellis are a waste of space... I'm learning that one, even with the ASC+T on they spin out like mad. I've got a set of p6k's on the front and 2 contis on the rear.. and I think my mum has some Conti Runflats on hers...

If one side is wearing un-evenly its probably worth getting a KDS allignment or something.

Presume you're on 17/18's?

you dont mention mileage so I don't know what you expect us to say. But not ripping up those roundabouts so much will help, just as will buying longer lasting tyres.

I have the same problem , Wheel alignment and balance are set correct.. Traction control has never been turned off yet i rarely see 5000 miles from a set of front tyres on my Peugeot 307 2.0 XSI.

Get rid of the Pirelli's matey.

I've got some Eagle F1's on (225/40/R18 W Rated) and I get around 9-10k

I would get the 4 wheel alignment check done on your car, you should get at least 10k out a set of tyres. Girlfriends sister has a Cooper S Works and it does well over 10k on the Dunlop run flats.

Do you check the tread deapth before getting them replaced as 3k is shocking even for a FWD car as runflats are generally harder wearing than normal tyres.

I meant to say tyre :S

And i also meant just normal commuting type driving, not going crazy as we all like, but im sure i heard somewere that tyres should last 3-4 years with normal miles over them obviously.

P6k's as mentioned above are pretty good in the dry, infact very good. Show them some wet though and they are dreadful. If you are on a spirited drive it can be quite dangerous if you get to wet ground and forget to brake so much earlier.

Didn't you think to try a different tyre before you got to your 5th pair?

EDIT- Who the hell says how long tyres should last with a time measurement?!? Such an odd measurement to use for this sort of item.

What's "normal" miles? Some people barely do 2000 miles a year, others do more than 20,000 miles. It's impossible to make a generalisation like this as different cars, tyres and driving styles have such a huge influence on tyre life.

Get some el cheapo ditch finders, I got 30k out of the last set of fronts (admitedly they were pretty ropey when I removed them) and even more out of the rears and they only went due to punctures that probably were not worth repairing as they only had a few months wear in them!
