Is there anywhere on OcUK where you can read reviews and leave them for products you have bought?

I dont really understand how the star rating works as there are no reviews to see how many people 5 stars or how many left 1 star

If not then i think it would be a good idea, as i like to read comments, both good and bad before I buy something.

I find half the fun of buying something is researching it and other products in that range before hand.

Don't bother leaving a negative as it will not be put up. They only list the best ones.

When the revamped site was first launched I saw a couple of negative reviews, no idea how many are on there now though.

Edit: After a quick look, it looks like a product either has no rating or a fantastic one. :p

I've read a few reviews where people actually say that they've only gave it 3 stars but yet it shows up at 5

OcUK tinkering with reviews? :p

I thought it was pretty standard procedure for online shops to only list reviews with 4* or 5* ratings, simply because it would otherwise be too easy for people with a grudge unrelated to the product (or even related to a single instance) to ruin the whole rating. I agree it doesn't necessarily help you in your decision making but from a business point of view it is understandable. :)

Well, pointless remarks and comments shouldn't be posted such as

"ZOMG OCUK SUCK THIS HARDDRIVE SAYZ 80GUGS BUT IT ONLY COMES UP AS 74GUBS ON MY PC!!!!"

But constructive comments should be aired. Otherwise the review system is pointless, you may as well just put a static rating of 5 stars next to every product. - "They're all perfect, buy now!" :p

best to look for a dedicated review first from proper hardware/software reviewers :)

Or the ocuk forumite sludge, they own or have owned pretty much every piece of electronics since the fall of the dinosaurs :p

That would require more moderation though, I don't know how they do it presently but it would be more effort to 'review' every review rather than simply placing a filter that excludes everything with less than 4*. This is possibly why you sometimes see a 5* review with "sucks like a Dyson" or similar as the accompanying text.

why would ocuk allow people to post negative reviews if it stopped customers buying products. that would just be plain stupid.

its down to the consumer to do their own research on a product before buying. if you don't you are a mug

If i buy a product that is decent and is for a good price, delivered quickly then i will leave it a good review. Dont see what the point in people holding grudges is, unless they leave a bad review because they have had bad service/product and it gets removed/edited or even changed to 5 stars. Then thats shocking!

because its not always about the product, i leave reviews based on service often more than the product (responses from the company, delivery charges, delivery times etc)

Some companies happily send out free replacement products if they have broken in the post or i if i talk to the General Director of a company about new product/ideas. Its called good customer service and will make me buy again from them.

OcUK has been pretty good for me in the past as far as replacing things. However response is a little slow at times

Well, no offence here, but then a review system shouldn't be implemented if it's not going to be maintained properly. :) If all reviews below 4* are automatically binned, what's the point? Customers will only get more annoyed because they'll purchase a product and then find out it's unreliable or just generally crap - yet the reviews it had all said it was fine. :p

Usually our customers will have a comment/review system implemented to improve their product lineup. It allows them to hear what products aren't very good, so they stop selling them and replace them with better alternatives. Over time they say it's great because with the help of their customers they arrive at having a really impressive product line-up that customers are genuinely pleased with. :)

Because the regular consumer doesn't know that and most will take them as gospel, i spend quite a bit of time 'tweaking' reviews etc, theres no way i'm going to put up a bad one thats like shooting yourself in the foot. However if they are reviewing the product and they dont think the build quality is good etc i will put that up but i won't put up reviews slamming the service they recieved, just like ocuk dont let us slam their service on these forums i'd imagine.

There's a difference between someone slamming OcUK on their own doorstep, and simply saying the product isn't great. OcUK have nothing to be ashamed of with that, they don't make most of their products. If enough customers turn around and say "It isn't very good guys, sorry" then it allows people to avoid the crap products that would reflect on OcUK badly. OcUK in turn then remove the disliked products from their range. Customers are happy. :) Otherwise OcUK run the risk of selling crap products under a false assumption.

Take the below scenario.

Customer reads reviews for a product, has 3 reviews which are good. The 45 reviews which are bad were binned and the customer obviously never sees those.

Customer buys the product, and like the majority before them is not happy with the product. They leave a bad review (which isn't aired either) and they take their custom elsewhere from then on.

---

Customer reads review for a product. Has some poor reviews. Decides to buy an alternative on the site that has good reviews.

Customer buys the product and as expected and is happy along with the majority. They enjoy their new product and will then most likely order from OcUK again.

:)

^ I have left reviews on other wesites saying how long delivery times were and they didnt get taken off. I also commented on how good the customer service was as far as emailing me back.
Both are very useful to people buying things from that particular site. Its what makes people shop there again
