Girls that say 'mate'.

Only if they say it to another female, that always strikes me as odd - 'mate' has always struck me as a masculine term, which is why it's normal to me for girls to refer to guys as 'mate'
 
i dont find it weird that girls say mate.... though i dont ever recall saying mate to a girl *shrugs*

just doesnt sound right

Yep have one female friend who calls me "mate", she is a bit of a tomboy, ladette type so it kind of works I guess.

As shallow as it sounds, I do think it's weird girls using the phrase.
 
A female friend of mine says 'mate' to me, but I've never heard girls refer to each other as 'mate'.

I think the phrase 'mate' is used too loosely these days. Everybody says it to each other. It doesn't offend me if some random bloke calls me mate, but I've always seen it as a nice thing if somebody you actually know says "cheers mate" or "sorry to hear that mate" as it's a bit more emphatic and more personal. When a taxi driver who've you met for all of 2 minutes is saying 'mate' and 'geezer' left right and centre it kind of takes the edge off it slightly. Maybe it's just me.
 
Boys that call girls 'mate' sounds weird.

People who call anyone in their family 'mate' is also weird.

It's better than being called 'babe'. That really gets on my nerves.

"Awight babe.. how you doing?"

Basically translated to

"Hello you ugly ****er, I'm calling you by a cute name to mask how ugly I think you are. How are you doing? I don't really give a toss, but I'm asking anyway"

I started this topic about girls that call guys 'mate' and even other girls. I honestly wasn't told that I was a mate by a girl I was interested in. Although to show how much I suck I was called 'babe'.
 
one of my female friends says it all the time. To everyone, even her boyfriend.

"maaaaaaaaaaate" (high pitch a sound, sounds more like meat)
