Hey, thinking about taking my g/f to London for 4/5 nights after the new year as part of her xmas present. Can anybody in London recommend me some reasonably priced hotels near to all the usual attractions and shops etc..

cheers!

If you want to find the cheapest B&Bs in central London, then it has to be King Cross! (was staying there for a couple of weeks for work!)

Just go on Expedia and take a look there. For vicinity options choose "Bloomsbury - Soho". That'll keep you close to the West End, there's more to do there and it's within easy travel of the sites. You don't really want to stay in or near Westminster, there's not much to do in the evenings.

Whats the best airport to fly to? (the one which is the closest?)

how much would a taxi/train cost from *** airport to this area!

50 - 100 you are looking at a travel lodge.

i got locked out of my house a few nights back (left my keys in the office after a few beers)

ended up staying at the selfridge hotel, it wasnt great but it served its purpose. i think it was £120 a night and its right next to Oxford street.

Dead easy from Heathrow - you can get the Heathrow Express into Paddington and it's a 5 minutes taxi ride

Maida Vale would be a nice place to stay actually, nice area - Regents Park is fairly close which is nice to wander around, at a push you could walk down to Marble Arch and then around Hyde Park or the West End.

Central London is really not that big, with 4-5 days I would recommend just walking around everywhere, if you want to see the City etc, start off there and walk back West towards your hotel. You'll see loads more than you would if you get the tube round everywhere, much more pleasant as well.

It’s probably a 15-20minute walk from padding station (edge of Hyde park) to the start of oxford street. So you’re looking at least 30mins+ to walk from the Marriott to oxford street. If you’re going to be exploring London you’re going to be doing a hell of a lot of walking. I don't recomend the tube because you cant discover new places. You might want to try some where a little closer.

I was there a few weeks back and we stumbled upon the seven dials in london. Thats what I love about London you can find somethign new everytime you go.
