The Bios wont allow me to go past 240 FSB...is this it?! have i jsut got a freezer 64 for nothing

nb Asus A8N-VM
could anything be holding the bus speed at 241?

cheers

is that your board or processor?!

I know a few people that have clocked the CPUs over 3.5 and even on to 4.0 with the right cooling. Cooling isnt an issue for me - all running cool but wont go any higher and remain stable, so I've put it down to my mobo and perhaps my RAM - PC5300.

interesting...
my cpu is totally stable at 2.4 and running v cool on stock volts. more juice left in it, i suppose i could put the fsb being stuck at 240 to x4 512mb dodgy ram and a micro-atx mobo :(

it's a good idea to sell the processor and upgrade but i've only just got this chip and 939 x2's are getting rarer! not got the post count to get in the mm either ;)

Only 51 posts off though! :)

Go on - answer a few questions, join in some debates and get to the MM. Always a deal to be had. :D

Like you say... i'd consider finding 2x 1gb sticks as they'll possibly clock better. But a slightly faster chip wouldn't go amiss!

Are you limited to a micro-atx case or was it just the board you started with?

If you can upgrade the mobo you might be able to stick with the ram and chip you have and get a decent clocking mobo. I had a DFI SLi-DR which was simply incredible. I clocked my opteron 165 (1.8ghz stock) all the way to 3ghz on air. That's a 334mhz FSB... not only that but i'm sure the board would have kept on clocking too! Awesome!

the m-atx board was what i started with a-la Mesh computers :S
the problem is if i start thinking about swapping mobos then core2duo becomes a much more tempting proposition. i bought the 3800 2 weeks ago to breathe more life and hopefully get a healthy overlock. alas! off to the bay with the 3800 i recon...
