Can’t quite believe what I’ve done! :( just received my brand spanking new hard drive connected it all up etc then booted up and I hear a spark/short noise  opened the case up and found the hard drive smoking and the plastic part at the end was unbelievably hot! To my amusement I had connected both power connectors i.e. the Molex & Sata power connector :( looks like a rather expensive door stop now!

You could RMA as failed drive :) IF it is still under warrenty then you will get away with it. That's what warrenties are for BUT shame on you for putting both power connections on at the same time. Lesson learnt haha. Step 2 RMA.

Shame on the manufacturers for leaving both connectors on the drives. There is no need for a 4-pin molex on an SATA drive.

Its brand new from a retailer so yeah its under warranty etc, the fact the end has burnt marks and it smells really bad of burnt plastic I'm not going to take the risk of an RMA, user error inst covered & Ill be lumped with the delivery bill.

I guess a RMA is out of the question as it has physical damage..

Well seeing as you bust it unfortunately you can't really expect to be able to RMA it... :( (It's not as if it was a manufacturing fault or defective workmanship on the part of the HDD manufacturer...)

Oooops. I've entirely fogotten to plug one in before, and spent a VERY long time scratching my head. But I've not plugged it in twice. That's just silly.

Touch wood *touches wooden desk* I havn't made any of these mistakes yet however I do remember when my brother blew his own cpu and wanted to test his motherboard was still ok and it was however his test CPU (the one he commandeerd from my PC) melted due to the fact he didn't reattach the HS & fan I was not happy!!!!
