£1k - fairly rapid, suggestions please.

gambitt, just give it up, you're just showing yourself up.

Jeez, Fox does get a raw deal on these forums - I'm surprised he is able to stay so calm with the people who constantly poke at him!

woah chill out, it's just a bit of friendly banter. Why is everyone so defensive on these forums? I like Fox really :)

It makes sense he recommends cars he knows about. Hell all I recommend are Hondas because thats what I have a experience with! :D

Sorry, I guess it's a bit late (not usually up this late, but am reinstalling Windows on a machine), but it's often that someone will berate Fox for recommending a car, and the thread will very quickly de-rail into an "everyone bash Fox" fest! ;)

Cheers for the suggestions, am happy for any further thoughts or experience of economy as well. I do around 400 miles each week total, around £62 per week @ 28mpg. That drops to £50/week @ 35mpg so an extra £50 each month - reasonable savings. Even @ 30mpg I save nearly £20 each month, enough for a decent saturday afternoon out with my old man.

Any real life figures and comparisons between the 'lude, Rover T and the V6 mondy would be nice!

Says who? :p

Got a garage/driveway full of parts btw if you need anything for the project ;)

Spare rear arches...;)

Seriously, I may have to take you up on that mate - few tatty bits here and there, need to see what it comes out like after my old fella has finished the paint job - by hand

Civic VTI?

This would be a good suggestion, cheap as chips now and still generally rock solid (mine had 140k on when I sold it), will return good economy most of the time (the economy is actually the main thing I miss since switching to the S3), average of around 35-40mpg IME.

Unless you are very lucky I don't see you getting a vtec Lude for £1k or less. You can get one of course, but it will be one that needs a fair bit of work. I have seen a number of Ludes going for that figure but none that I would have considered buying. If you can afford to spend a bit more than that then you could get a good example. Otherwise I would look at something else.

Yeah it'd be an EG shape for 1k, though MPG wouldn't be that much different to an MB6 - could be a bit better actually, the EG's use the smaller 1.6 engine (160hp and 0-60 mid 7's)

Can't remember who, but someone on this forum got one really cheap. Might've been Neil?

The Civic VTi sounds interesting, will do some research. As for cheap preludes, 1993-1997 can be had around the £1k mark, 100k+ examples normally, seems a fair few out there as well

Arches on my blue car are still solid. Obviously not as simple as unbolting them but they're there...

Hmm, have been looking at replacement metal but the parts are the neck end of £300 from here - could be interested if you can get the panels off un good shape. If you want to add me to MSN it's a.j.kitching AT orange.net

Cheers
