Basically whats the difference? My mondeo needed a major service last week and was wondering what extra the mechanic goes to when doing that over a minor service.

Also, I was quoted £450 for the seervice, plus rear passenger ARB drop links, front ARB drop links, front wishbones and track rod ends and I think bushes at the front too.

Was that a good price? I only half the stuff done anyway as I dont have enough cash for it all lol.

Wishbones.. £130 for two. Rear droplinks, £14 for two. Front droplinks, similar amount. £5 for an oil filter, £15 for the oil, £5 for a fuel filter. Say 4 hours labour @ £40 an hour. Perhaps an air filter as well.

I make it about £350-£400 worth of work.

I take it that's main dealer prices - I've never paid over £20 for a Mondeo wishbone....

No, it's me being an idiot and including labour in the wishbone prices, then including it again when I counted labour :p

Ah, that explains it :p

i had a really good read into the difference between minor and major services on my sis's boxster.... basically they 'check' more things

servicing at dealers is a mug's game unless you have a nice new car etc whose residuals really need the stamps

even if i was in that position, i still wouldnt be brave enough to keep engine oil in for 12k-20k miles.
