Looking at getting my affairs in order and I'm wondering how much it costs to have a cremation (I'd rather be buried but it looks expensive). I'm pretty much looking at nothing too special, a basic coffin/casket (hey if it's going to be burned I'm not bothered about teak or mahogany!) and a simple service.

Does anyone any idea on the costs, I can't remember how much it cost for my Granddad ten years ago and what happens if you are completely broke, do they stick you in the landfill (j/k)?

Sorry it's not an upbeat topic, Google isn't really coming up with anything concrete and I thought some people would know here..?

You will have to go along and ask a funeral director etc. It varies from area to area iirc from my nan dying. But you'll need a coffin, a booking at the crem for burning, and your ashes can either be picked up from the local records place for free by a family member, or you can choose to have them scattered (usually on some grass in the crem grounds OR, you can organise a headstone/plaque at the crem/church grounds.

Are you dying then?.

In answer to your question - around £2200 for the burial and £700 for the headstone.

This site has useful info on all aspects of funerals, including cardboard coffins. £58 ish.

The cost:
Cost is a major factor for many in deciding between burial and cremation. In urban areas where crematoriums are easily accessible and grave space scarce, cremation can be significantly cheaper. Grave digging can cost £600 to £800, and in some places considerably more. Cremation should cost around £200 to £300. These costs do not include elements such as funeral director's charges, transport and a coffin or cremation urn.

Get yourself signed up fo rmedical research, let your body be useful once its gone...

I always thought about donating such body parts for research then i thought, why!?

Maybe its a good things to do, always worth considering, especially if you can help others, especially younger generations..
