Whats the best alternative to Teamspeak?

My mate and I use teamspeak which is ok-ish sound quality wise but has a small lag @1/2 second or so. Any free alternatives that are beter, we both have very good broadband.

Yeah, Ventrillo is the only decent alternative I'd say.

I dunno if Skype would be any good? Never used it myself.

I used vent for a while and found it much better than TS2

Just looking at it, neither of us has a server or anything - can you set it up free?

you can get the vent server exe and host the server on your pc, but most people just buy a cheap vent server, if you don't want the hassle of a server just go for skype or msn tbh

If you both have steam they've added voice chat to the friends thing , seams really clear to me.

always found vent leagues better than TS, correct codecs or not

steam voice chat is pretty clear aswell if you dont want any hastle/extra outgoings

Never had a problem with TS2 in my experience. Only relevant problem has been people with really bad mikes giving loads of distortion

Teamspeak seems fine here, or the voice chat in XFire is amazing clear

TS has been less laggy than Vent in my experience, it's all down to the servers you're on though. Better quality/less laggy servers do seem more commonplace on TS to vent mind.

Tbh its all about the codecs when using vent n ts2 but peronally i much prefer to use a vent server. skype always has an echo for me probs just my headset

If there is only 2 of you, skype seems a no brainer to me.

Otherwise Vent is probably worth looking into if you don't like TS.

With the steam chat in friends. Can you talk with multiple people at once? Like talk as a group?

Vent, used TS2 for ages then the switch to Vent was huge, much clearer and a lot nicer to use.
