Whats the best alternative to Teamspeak?

I found that our ts server wasn't that clear, changed the codec ( to speex 16.3 i think), and its as clear as a phone call.

A lot depends on peoples mics/settings tbh.

As people have already said, I wouldnt touch team speak, its horrid! Ventrillo is the best possible imo. Much easier to use and its Very clear. If/When you switch you proberly wont recognise your friends voice because you will hear what they actually sound like for the 1st time!

Me and a couple of friends use Skype. Its very clear and not laggy. I don't know the maximum number of people you can have in a conference call though.

Gahhh I just don't understand voice chat in PC games. Can someone clear this up for me:

- why do we need a separate program / server to hear others talking in a PC game?
- why do I sometimes hear other people speaking in BF2 even when I don't have Ventrillo / TS loaded?

- why do we need a separate program / server to hear others talking in a PC game? - Clearer, can pick servers easily, just chat!
- why do I sometimes hear other people speaking in BF2 even when I don't have Ventrillo / TS loaded? - Ingame voice, like CS:S

BTW, if thats TGC Vent, HI!:D

Thanks Dyson. So can people using BF2 in-game voice, Vent, and TS all hear and communicate with each other in-game or only those on the same server? If they have to be on the same, how on earth do teams arrange to be able to talk to each other usefully?

Me and about 5 of my mates use Skype when were gaming.

Only downside is that if someone d/c's, the host has to alt+tab to readd them, just a small bit of hassle though really.
