Castrol GTX

general motors basically sends off some specs, to say a company like Castrol, and Casrtol make it to those 'GM' specs.

VW do it and it comes back as Quantum Synta/Gold, a friggin amazing oil

I changed my oil for some Castrol GTX (before this thread existed though),

doesnt come reccomended from me, its made one of my lifters noisy until warm, it used to quieten down after about 5 seconds, now it takes about 10 minutes!

The old dirty oil in the engine did a better job of quietening it! Will not be using this **** again.

Replacing dirty, soot thickened, oxidised, thick oil with nice fresh thin stuff does have a habit of making engines noisier. Your engine would be silent on treacle I would guess.

What engine is it out of interest?

Its an 1.8 Renault F7P block, bored to 2.0 with Williams crank and pistons. (Effectively making it the F7R engine). But i wouldnt expect a honda head to know that :D

It was built, bored e.t.c in 2002 (including new lifters :P)

I rebuilt a mates F7R in my kitchen :p I'm still more of a Rover head than Honda man anyway. I've hardly done anything to mine.
