Is there a resource on the net which tells you which mobile phone operator is associated with which number?

ie 077xxxxxxxx must be a different operator to 088xxxxxxxxx

You might get an idea which network the number started with, but not a definitive answer.

But yeah, you can use this:
http://www.ukphoneinfo.com/section/tci/locator.shtml

You need the 5-digit area code, though. I've used this numerous times to suss out where a phone number is for land-lines. Like said though, this is only showing who operates the numbers - a particular number might have moved to another network.
