Hey all,

Me and a group of a few friends are planning on scrapping the idea of getting each other pointless presents this year and instead, spending the money on indulging in the vast luxurious world of eating out. :D

However, it's been a while since we've wandered from our usual haunts, so I'd be very interested to know what places you'd recommend we consider in Norwich.

At the moment Zizzi's and Cafe Rouge are the main restaurants that have appealed to us.

Many thanks to whoever posts! :)

Oooh, Zizzi's in norwich is very very nice. Am also interested in this thread, me and some friends are thinking of the same.

There is a fair few of us Norwich people about haha.

Dunston Hall is meant to be good, as daz says. Haven't been there myself yet but know a lot of people who've been and think it's great :)

I recently had a meal in Mackintosh just outside Chapelfields. I certainly wasn't expecting much but the food was very good and the atmosphere matched it.

The venue would suit large parties too if required.

I don't know about Norwich, but here in London Cafe Rouge and Zizzis are just average chain restaurants. Don't get me wrong they're not bad, but they're nowt special - if you want to indulge yourselves I'd be looking at something a bit more upmarket, certainly from a food quality point of view, but then again I am a food snob (comes with the territory of being French :p). However if you like that sort of eatery they're not bad for relatively cheap agreeable dining. :)

There is a Cafe on Tombland that we went to last year that was really good. It's the one on the corner by the pedestrian crossing.

There's always the all you can eat Chinese in St Stephens car park :D

I went to Mambo Jambo on Lower Goat Lane with my family and girlfriend not long ago. It's not especially 'upmarket' but it's good dining and you get fed well.

Mambo Jambo's is good indeed. As said, not up market, but great food all the time.
Prezzo's is fantastic if you like italian.
I actually prefer pizza express on St Benedicts to zizi.
Don't go to tootsies.
The resteraunt in the mad moose is amazing.
The sugar hut IMO serves the best thai.
I wasn't impressed with mackintosh's Canteen, but the missus loves it.

It doesn't have to be pretentiously upmarket, I just don't really like chain places as they're all a bit soulless places - I'd much rather go somewhere quirky or bijou with good food rather than a generic place. Problem with London is there is too much pretentiousness :/ I hope Norwich is more fun!

I wouldn't go to Cafe Rouge if you payed me. I've eaten at the Zizi's in Cambridge and the food was good. Nothing special, but good.

I think Cafe Rouge is just really inconsistent. I've eaten at the Cheltenham and London Bridge ones and they've been good most of the time, but in Cheltenham the service can be so slow it's untrue.

Dunston Hall Country House Hotel? (just outside Norwich)

Cant say i'd reccomend it, recently visited myself and the choice of food available was poor and what was on offer wasnt great either. Was such a let down after a previous visit. Wouldnt mind afew ideas on places to eat out, getting abit tired of the same old places.

I haven't been since they were refurbishing the main dining hall earlier this year, we used to go every year for a meal around christmas time. Was good food for a decent price in nice surroundings back then.

Shame if things have gone down hill. :(

Mate, next time you visit Norwich let me know - Lavender House will be the place for lunch.
