Sorry if this has already been asked but I'm looking for updates about the 9xxx series, are we still likely to see a 9800gtx in Q1 2008? I ask because I'm thinking about buying an 8800gt with my new rig, but with EVGA as they have a 90 day part exchange program, so I figure I can use it to switch to the 9 series when those cards come out. (But if they're not out within 90 days it doesn't really help me anyway).

Lastest rumour is that it'll be a GX2 (2 cores in one card) early next year and the 9800 series will be much later next year.

So basically untill late next year, it's possibly all me will get is the GX2 which will practically be 2x 8800GT SLi, 8800GTS (G92), 8800GTX(G92)? Maybe some other low end cards aswell?

Looks like I'll be keeping my GT for a long time, I hope the 9800 dont turn out to be a 2900.

If that is the case then when the next cards out the gt will be cheap and everyone will just sli them i suspect the next gen is going to be more like 2x the power of gt sli than 1 x.

don't get too caught up on the new gts, apparently its slightly worse performance than the gt, but the cooler is the dual slot one which should cause less problems. If you are willing to put an aftermarket cooler on an 8800gt may as well go with that

I don't think there is any rush for new cards at the moment, Crysis runs fairly well on current high end hardware (8800 series) as it is and I can't see anything more intensive than Crysis coming out until Alan Wake.

Anymore detail on the new 8800GTS (and whatever else is coming out this side of the year?) - might be in the market for something but I suspect the 8800GT will do...

EVGA are still the ones that allow you to change the cooler without voiding warranty right? Just hope my Opty 165 copes with it...

I'm seriously considering not selling my P5N-E SLi now, might come in use in the future for cheap SLi :D.

Sell it  I'm having nightmares with mine & SLI. Have a thread in overclocking about it, but then again thats what I get for buying a cheap board :)

I'm only hoping, for my sake that no new "9" series nVidia card is due soon after just getting these 2 8800's. But then again I guess I could just splash out on a new card if it was worthwhile, I'm not that fussy.

Penryn and 8800 should run Alan Wake pretty well I rekon.

Yep probably, I don't think the 8800 series are gonna show their age until 2009 myself.

Mainly because I don't think many games are even coming out in 2008, not ones that I think will require uber specs anyway, Crysis is the first in a while to require that.

good question, I thought it would be on par with the GTX

Cause it's only a 8800GTS G80 core with 112 shaders. still 16 less than a GTX and same clock speeds as the old GTS.

Just a way of getting rid of the old G80 cores.

There is still rumours of a G92 revision GTS coming out in December with 600 core speeds and 128 shaders. Now that will beat the pants off a GTX and even a Ultra if it overclocks to 700Mhz like the GT's do.
