maybe remove some of the information to do with the link?

Some people like to copy and paste things.

Yes :(

Even more surprising is that some people don't even have antivirus on Windows machines

I don't. If you aren't a total idiot, you don't need AV anyway... Most average joe machines packed with anti-virus software are fulled to the brim with spyware because they/their kids play stupid flash games and click yes through everything. 99% of no computer savy folk end up with at least 3-5 IE toolbars they dont need and never use.

AV software will not solve the worlds computer problems.

you still need AV software. you can get a virus from .jpgs from dodgy websites even.

while common sense will go a long way, you still need AV software.

One comment that always makes me laugh is the 'I don't have an AV and I don't have any viruses' ...but how do you know? Because not all viruses make themselves obvious :p

I get these often ... infact I'd say even worse I get a lot of phising emails usually from NationWide or Natwest (both I don't use) I can understand how newcomers could fall for such although the latest browsers.

It's scamming.

I hear this all the time.

"I've never used an antivirus in my life and I've never had a single virus".

My reply "In that case, you'll obviously never get one at all then."

It doesn't matter how careful you are, all it takes is one small slip and it's in.

I've never plunged to my death on the rig floor from the Derrick but I'll still be wearing a safety harness the next time I go up - I'm not that bloody stupid or arrogant to think that because it hasn't happened yet, it'll never happen.

I don't visit dodgy websites, so really theres going to be a 0.1% chance of me getting a virus.

Do you never install software, or receive a word document ?

Do you personally oversee the security arrangments of all sites you visit to ensure they are up to scratch and that even OcUK may not one day fall victim to some attack that injects something into these forums ?

There's no excuse for not having an anti-virus of somesort, there are many cut-down versions available for free :)

I use AVG myself, but theres NOD etc out there

Precisely. I can see absolutely no good reason not to use one.

I use the free version of Avast. I've just checked in task manager and it's using an enormous 8Mb RAM. If you're running a system where an AV using 8Mb RAM has a detrimental impact on it's performance then it's not worth protecting anyway :p

Someone tell me if this is real then.....I do have a friend called Stacey, and as its my birthday tomorrow I thought this might be legit, but I just get "page cannot be displayed"

Stacey Gibson has sent you an ecard.

Oh i install software but not very often, and no i don't scrutinize every site i visit, but if i don't trust a website i don't use it anyway.

Any website can be a potential virus hazard!

The only way I would run without any AV software would be if the machine had no connection to any other machine, and never had any unchecked software/data installed on it!
