Which Dell 24"?

Oooh my first post on here so I best say hi to y'all!! :)

Been reading the various posts on here debating the various merits of the popular 24" models and its obvious that there is little to choose between the Dell 2407 in either the HC or non HC variant and the BenQ FP241w.

Im leaning towards a Dell also, but I'm getting the impression that the 2407WFP Revision A04 offers better value than the new 2407HC. Wondering if you agree or disagree with this?

Mainly for gaming, surfing etc.

Generally people prefer the older Dell 24" screen (non-HC one) to avoid any ghosting issues that some HC's suffer from. The dell 24" and the benq 24" are probably very very similar so just pick the one which you like the look of or whichevers best value for money :)
 
If things such as HDMI and many inputs are important, get a BenQ but the Dell is amazing at that price.
As people say, don't get the HC version if you're gaming.
 
I'm amazed that Custom PC this month rated the Dell 2407 HC without a mention of any ghosting issues and they rate it over the A04???

I went for the A04 revision and it truely remarkable :)
 
many people would fail to notice the issue unless they knew they were looking for it...you'll see quite a few reviews not even mention it. Clearly it is a problem on the HC though. for the OP, take a read here for more info

I have the HC version and am in the process or returning it for a non HC. The monitor is amazing but the ghosting is there and does annoy me. I would love to keep this monitor as it's the best i've owned (apart from the ghosting of course). I'm sure the non HC will be perfect for me so i'd recommend that one if you can get one.

I own an HC and have looked specifically for ghosting and there is none. I don't believe this affects all the HC's. And before anyone starts saying you probably just dont notice it, I would and its not there :)
 
What about the new dell E248wfp? Havent seen many people talking about this or any reviews on it? Seems a good price, possibly worth looking into..

It doesnt have an adjustable base which for an outlay of at least £300 is a major omission in my opinion. Also I want to avoid TN panels. I currently have a s/pva Samsung 215TW which is awesome and will be my secondary monitor once I've chosen a 24",so I see no point in getting an inferior screen to be my primary monitor.

Ideally I'd like to see the Dell 2407HC in action to see whether I'd notice the alleged ghosting - I suspect that I wouldnt to be honest, unfortunately I've no idea where I could see one in the Hull area.
 
Thanks for all the opinions, I pulled the trigger and went for the 2407HC. I'm taking a bit of a risk with the ghosting issue but I'm hoping to get lucky on that score as its obviously not affecting everyone who has bought one, and I simply can't resist the latest gear. :D

Goodluck with it, post back how you get on. If your not affected by the ghosting issues, it really is a good quality monitor.

Let me know how you get on. I'll be looking at buying one of these in a couple of months. I'd rather the HC version as I do a lot of photo work, but I'm also a core gamer :) I'm sure ghosting while playing CSS and Crysis etc would annoy me ...
 
I'd like to know if you get the ghosting as well, I got a green ghosting on white stuff. So clouds etc had a green ghost behind them. Hopefully yours will be fine and if it is prepare to be amazed! :)
 
i used to really rate them, but i found their reviews started slipping and IMO werent very fair or balanced. i remember a review they did putting the x1900xtx up against the gtx. xtx = good, but expensive. gtx = great, nothing said about the price (even though it was £400 at the time).
 
I went for the 2407WFP Revision A04 although the HC was only £19 more, the ghosting issue was the major factor for not choosing the HC.
 
I've just bought a 24" Dell Widescreen for a guy at work and it only cost $351 all in... WOW

But I am in the US, even so i am so amazed how much these badboys have come down in price.. Maybe I'll even go for one.
