Tonights Emmerdale

Funny that you allow your daughter to watch a genre of programme that often features adultery, fighting, murder and other such nasties and you then worry about her seeing two men kissing

I have to agree that its a touchy subject. They wanted to let 5 year olds know about sex and gay sex. Life is complicated for kids - but letting children (young children) know the inner workings of a heterosexual and homosexual relationship is wrong, its not going to cause homophobia, when they become sexually aware and understand what gay people do then that is where homophobia is 'grown' with misinformation from peers/family.

But I agree that it could have caused some awkward questions, and for that should not be shown, and with the same sentence all smut should be banned until a suitable time of 9pm.

Everyone knows it's OK to kill somebody after raping their wife on TV, but for the love of god don't show men kissing.

To the OP, try using this as a discussion point and to explain about the differences between homo & heterosexuality.

It's the 21st century people. Gays kissing should be about as shocking as seeing a man and woman kiss. If it makes you uncomfortable ask yourself why. Does seeing men kiss make you gay or give you bad aids?

Oh and try doing something (and get your kids) that doesn't rot your brain. The level of literacy & numeracy in young kids is shocking. Probably because their parents put them in front of the 'tube!

I just wonder how many male Emmerdale watchers were offended by the lesbian scene a few years ago? Didn't pipe up then did they?

We don't mind lesbians, but oh my god get those horrible gay men away from me.

Don't worry. It's a society thing. ;)

Is Grange Hill still on ?

Vampy - If it was a man and a women, would you be posting about it?
I would be tempted to yes, the kiss was very "full on" and not (imo) appropriate for that time of night, when the broadcasters know full well that young children may be watching.

kip02 - Yes, but would you still be feeling the same if your daughter was not present.
Yes

The_TailGunner - no, the OP states they were in bed, having oviously just finished having sex.
No, it was a bedroom scene, i think one was sitting on the edge of the bed getting dressed and the other standing and also getting dressed.

I'm off to condemn my wife and daughter to a life of purgatory for watching soaps when they could have both been browsing the Encyclopaedia Brittanica !!

:D

Outrageous. Ok,we gwet it, being gay is acceptable, but stop flashing it in people faces and trying to make it the norm, when its not. Hampering the enjoyment of the majority to suit the minorty, bending us over and giving us no option.

**** happens. It won't get removed from TV regardless of what people think. I personally think it's not much of an issue.

Maybe it is a slight over-reaction. But the question is going to araise eventually. Overall, it's probably better that the parents deal with those kind of things rather than kids learning from other kids in the playgrounds or on the streets.
