Hi,

So we are now allowed to use 2500 litres of vegetable oil a year as bio diesel so what I don't understand is why we aren't seeing garages popping up giving us this fuel:-

OK some kind of "fuel card" would be need to ensure that you only got 2500 litres a year!

With veg oil being 51p per litre it's a massive saving!

So what’s the low down on this? Is the government putting such amounts because its bad for the environment or are they unsure how to spin sticking 50p Duty on it?

my car can't use biodiesel. But yeah, massive saving. Bet they manage to tax it loads.

No they set the 2500 litre limit because it costs them far more money in admin costs to go after the ordinary motorist and get their taxes than it would to let them go untaxed.

It's got nothing to do with the environment at all, its down to money again. Yes it works out very cheap but with the floods this summer crops are down on usual production making veg more expensive than it was 6 months ago.

isnt it because not all cars can run on it as well ? some cars will break down on puer veggie as its thicker and gets stuck in the injectors, where some will work fine and i doubt the garage will accept responsibiilty as it will vary from car to car

The garage isn't responsible if you put petrol in a diesel. It will not be any different with this.

So any non injected diesel engine will work? So nothing that came out in the last 10 years from the VW group? What about newer LR defender TD5? They haven't changed much. ^ same as above really. :)

It's brilliant having somebody else around who knows what he's doing :D
