got the x800xtpe agp card and was looking into the 2600xt would i see much of an improvement pci is not an option at the moment

cheers

What do you want the card for, what's your price range and what power supply do you have? (Please answer these questions :))

The x1950pro is a very good card and will be fantastic for you, but if your prepared to go 2nd hand then look for either an x1950xt AGP, or maybe there is a 7800GS/GT or 7950GT in AGP form.

Also, some other good news is that the latest range from ATI, is going to have the 3850 AGP (Basically an 2900pro) version come out soon which has low power requirements :)

Great advice Matthew ;). To answer your question on the improvement between the X800XT PE and the 2600XT, it would be just under double of the performance I reckon. I moved from the X800XT PE to the X1900XT and it was double to me but the X1950Pro is a little bit faster than the 2600XT and a little slower than my older X1900XT so I think I'm being accurate here? :).

If the 3850's come in AGP though and at the same kind of competitive pricing that AMD/ATI have been going by recently then it would be a good option to wait if you can.

Great advice Matthew ;).
lol... yup, I didn't answer the actual question I realised  I was trying to say unless he needs the cheapness of the 2600 then don't bother. Get another card that performs better for around the same price as an 2600 or maybe a little extra. Without knowing what he uses his PC for it's hard to give that advice though.

Thanks for filling in my failings ;) :D
