Most of the animal kingdom would disagree with you...

That would be natural not normal. Normal is pretty hard to define. If you define it as "not majority" then homosexuality is not normal as it is practised by the minority. Of course going by that then people with blonde hair are not normal either.

Normally in this case when people say "not normal" they mean "not acceptable" or "not right". In which case it is tricker because that comes down to personal opinion.

Personally I think its fine to show stuff like this on TV as long as it's after the watershed as it should be up to parents to educate their kids (or if questions are raised by kids as has been said) rather than being introduced by the tv. Does't bother me but can see why parents might not want their kids exposed to this sort of thing i.e. sex(gay or straight)/drugs/murder that are shown on shows like this at the time they're shown.

Bit OT:

Being gay is not normal, apart from that I agree with your post. Homosexuals should be treated as equals but saying their sexual orientation is normal is quite obviously incorrect.

Please, leave this guy alone. He clearly has nothing against homosexuality, just agrees that parents should educate their kids rather than the TV and states a fact.

I know the white-handed gibbons wouldn't! Go ahead and find me some studies of scientific merit on animal sexuality that suggest this is normal (see definition above) in the animal kingdom. Not just "OMG I saw two boy swans humping on some TV show!"

Learn what a word means before telling someone using it correctly that they're wrong. If he'd said it's not O.K or fine to be gay then fair enough but its a fact that its not normal!

normal |
adjective
1 conforming to a standard; usual, typical, or expected : it's quite normal for puppies to bolt their food | normal working hours.
2 (of a person) free from physical or mental disorders.

I have blonde hair!

Seriously, people who think homosexuality is "not acceptable" or "not right" need to relax a bit more and develop a more open mind. Sure unless you are gay you won't want to see men (strangely women are OK) going at it hammer and tongue but to get uncomfortable to shocked or outraged about some men kissing is going way to far.

I simply meant that in context woodworm, by not normal, clearly didn't mean freaks etc. but statistically and that yourself and Slinwagh's comments were missunderstandings. I think RDM hit the nail on the head ;)

Even by your definition for example if someone was picked from the world at random it would be standard, usual, typical and expected that the person would be hetrosexual, though not impossible that they would be homosexual, bisexual etc.. and (I really hope!) nobody considers homosexuality a physical or mental disorder.

i was a big hollyoaks fan, but the gay storyline etc really made me cringe i had to get up off the sofa and go play in the kitchen till all was safe again.
Its still to much of a taboo, i think we're still a nation of "we accept it, aslong as its not waved in our faces, behind closed doors or wahtever please!"
Fair enough this is a little unfair on gays etc but a lot of homosexuals are a bit erm, 'loud' unlike masses of straight people, meaning they draw attention to their behaviour, you dont really see men and woman snogging in the street where children are present(during daytime) do you..?

Of course not, can you imagine the kind of abuse they would get from dullard bigots? These being the same type of people who lynch paedeatricians (i.e. reactionary, ill-informed and half-witted types).

Yes...yes you do. I have seen it on numerous occassions and I'm a game addict so I don't even go out that often!

huh really? i dont see it, and i dont really do it with any girls in public either, maybes a quick sly/discrete one where you pull them out the way. Extremely rare though

It may be quite rare to see hetrosexuals snogging like that but it is not exactly common to see gays doing it either. In fact, I have only seen gays kissing in public once in my life and it wasn't really full on (not including in gay bars as it is not daytime and no children should be present). I have certainly seen straight people practically humping eachother in public several times.

On the other side of the coin, there are many gay couples that don't feel that they can show any intimacy in public whatsoever. After all, does "waving it in people's faces" include innocent acts such as holding hands in public?

yea i guess it depends where you are etc. I guess i view man+woman as more discrete due to that being what i grew up with(im only 21 too!)
im fine with holding hands etc and all that, i think everything should be generally kept in private though, although sometimes im gagging for a snog when i meet my mrs in the train station but shes one of those that refuses to in public most of the time!
Either way, its still a bit of a taboo and its something most of us dont want to see, nor do we want our kids to see it either(if i had them that is!)

Yet many people won't think twice about tuning in to some guff like Hollyoaks and seeing teenage girls (and lads, but to a far lesser extent) overtly sexualised by their clothes and the storylines. However it always seems to attract criticism from a certain type of person when it is gay men. It would at least be easier to bear if some of the posters accepted and admitted an (albeit small) level of latent homophobia within themselves rather than try to dress it up as commenting on the declining standards of television.
