My Mouse has a mind of its own.

I have a Logitech MX500 (old mouse i know but im used to it and like it).

But for some reason even when the mouse is still the mouse cursor ocassionally slowly moves of the the left.

Moving the mouse stops it but has anyone else had this problem.

I don't know the mouse you have so if it isn't wireless this doesn't apply, but I had exactly the same feature with a wireless one, caused by a weak signal, the receiver was at an angle to the mouse, straightened it up & sorted, took a few days to diagnose though.

Yup, mines started doing that as well. To be fair though I have had this mouse for years, it has served me well.

It happens sometimes is about all I can say, I've had it happen on wired Microsoft Basic Optical mice and systems integrator builds with a variety of cheap and nasty mice. Don't know if the same problem affects laser mice, hopefully not.

Have you tried cleaning your mouse?

The most annoying thing is when you forget that your monitor is on standby, and then in the middle of the night your room is illuminated as the mouse has moved and woken it up!

I had a lot of trouble with an optical mouse doing its own thing and not being properly responsive which was caused by using it on a patterned coloured surface it didn't like. (Actually it was the reverse side of a pastry rolling board which is patterned to look like pine in a nasty wavy yellow/brown kind of way). I just bought a plain black fabric mouse mat and all is well.

Make sure both services are clean thats what I would do. If it still does it then time for a new one unless your not bothed it moves by itself.

I have a skipping cursor problem now and again, its due to a scummy desk though, a quick wipe and im ready to rock again!
Mice at work move on thier own due to poor (reflective) desk surface, Put the mouse on a sheet of paper...if that solves it, theres your answer.
