Im currently using a nice pair of Sennheiser earphones (from my Hifi not specific ones for gaming) from my CS days which have great sound quality and block out background noise.

However after playing tBF2142 the other day with a guy using the ingame VoIP to great effect (he literally organised the whole team and we absolutely kicked ass) I now realise the importance of using VoIP.

So which headsets do you guys use and would recommend me that a) Has a good sound quality and b) has a good clear mic for BF2142?

Im tempted to stick with Sennheiser but unsure what the USB models offer over the standard ones other than the ability to carry your sound settings around which doesnt sound worth the money to me.

Cheers,
Simon

Sennheiser PC161's...also got a cheaer pair of Sennheiser's..but the 161's are the best I've used. Some people wil recommend using a beter headphone set with a desktop mic....but I dont like that...there is nothing worse than hearing someone on VOIP with a lot of background noise (kids, TV etc.). For that purpose...I think a headset is best.

Check this out, have purchased one myself and very pleased with it. Has received numerous awards, etc and the selling point for me is that it is teamspeak certified - ergo amazing clarity for voip.

For FPS these will kick some ass too due to the force feedback which is a good laff as it adds that lil extra to the games you play.

Oh and just so you know, if you order from the site and use the voucher "csnation" you get the whole kit n caboodle for £39.15 inc postage which is pretty amazing for a set like this.

Personally didn't find those rumble ones that good. The rumble itself was good, but you had to have the volume up incredibly high for it to have any real effect. The sound was a bit murky (even with rumble off) and the mic decided to stop working after a few months (I'm guessing a dodgy connection after all the twisting). Maybe I just got a bad pair, although It does seem like most positive reviews seem to come from tiny review sites who have obviously just set up a website so that they could get free stuff for writing reviews. :)

ive got the Sennheiser 161's also great headphones, sound quality is nice, and with the little volume thing on the wire you can also turn the mic on and off which can be useful at times.

I'd keep using them imo.

I have a pair of HD555's and an old labtec headset with mic. I only have the mic from the headset plugged in. Then, I just pop the headset around my neck and position the mic. Acceptable mic capabilities along with great sound from the 555's.

Yet another vote for the Sennheiser PC161’s here. Good sound quality, comfortable and decent mic.

Personally I wouldn’t bother with the USB ones.

I agree with the poster above, I use a pair of Sennheiser HD515's and a cheap Logitech desk mic which has served me great and only cost around £8. Before that I just used a old headset with the mic just plugged in. :)

The USB ones apparently you can use as standalone for VoIp leaving your speakers for game sounds. Im assuming this only really works if you use an external app for comms like Teamspeak.

Im assuming Battlefield doesnt support 2 sound devices in the game for using the built in Voip Comms.

Also I have probs with my 5.1 speakers with 2142 - it kills my FPS. I was playing for months with 20fps. Boshed in headphones and now its 80+.

Sounds like the 161's are looking favourable. Worst case I use the mic from those and my existing headphones.

Cheers,
Simon

I use an Xbox 360 wireless headset (think bluetooth thing for your mobile) with the crossplay adapter on my PC. The batterys last about 8 hrs and its got a good range. sound quality is more than up to voice coms standard but its only one ear so you have game sounds through the speaks.

Once you set up Teamspeak or your coms software of choice its fine as long at you make sure its not transmitting your games sounds and upsetting other users.

Whats the diff between a the 151 and the 161s? is it worth missing out on a game and an extra fiver?

I use the 161's. Good quality and they have lasted me what must be a year now without a problem. Only point against them I would say is they don't block out much room noise, apart from that, excellent.

As far as I know the only difference is the bit about "Unique 3D, 360 degree surround sound ". I've not compared both but I've not noticed this feature do anything exciting. Maybe there are some other differences?

heh i do this... as my competitive gaming has gone down hill i have used my speakers more and my headphones less, but when i need coms i have my headphones round my neck... they are plantronics audio90's btw... have bought them a number of times (i break a lot of headphones) and they have always done me well

i also look forward to the day when someone makes a proper wireless headset with mic

never wear headsets as they bug me use a standalone mic ,quality hifi amp and sweet speakers you can keep your headsets :p
