How come it's ok to scream repost again?

I don't think that politely informing the poster that there has been a previous discussion on the topic is bad thing at all. I don't even think people are being smug when they are saying "pea roast" or whatever, it's just to try and look "elite." Which is why that can be perceived as annoying.

Same here.

I don't mind when people politely point out that a post is a repost, but the people who just put the one word reply of "pearoast" really annoy me, what is the point?
 
Just posting "repost" or "pearoast" or any other silly combination on it's own isn't very useful.

Actually linking to the original thread in question is - because it's probably already been commented on, so we don't need to start duplicating stuff.

The only times I can remember being quick enough to be first to post in a repost thread, I've included the link(s) to previous thread(s)

A quick search of your threads started shows 2 threads moaning about the use of the word detailing, 1 ranting about the O RLY owls, and of course, this one. To be fair, I do agree with you on the repost thing, however it does seem that like you get wound up easily :p

Not to mention the added irony that they are bumping a repost, defeating the point* of them posting "repost" in the first place.

*The real point of them doing it of course, is as you say.. smug++;

Yeah you can have serious discussion, but there's no point getting so worked up over things like this.
 
You've got to remember that the origins of the forum are computer based. Computer forums are going to have a number of virgin computer geeks that think oneupsmanship is funny.

You can't go into someone elses house and tell them how to do things, that's what we moan at immigrants for.

Now, having fulfilled my muslim moan quota for the day, I shall detail my ORLY owl with some fairy liquid and a sponge, and valet my car with pin-stripe paint.

This is true, maybe it's to be expected from a certain percentage of the demographic of this place.
