Hi all,

Well im looking to go to France tomorrow (Calais) to get some booze :D but i've never actually been there! :O

so whats the cheapest way to travel there?

Im thinking of taking car also BUT i've never drove on the opposite side of the road... so thinking if its worth the risk or not ?

Cheers in advance!

Ive only ever been on the euro-tunnel many moons ago, was awesome, was a school trip and the teachers came back with a coach full of booze. Risk it! be a dare devil!

Driving in Calais, is very easy, its really not a big deal.

The distances are tiny around calais anyway.

Ferry is cheaper then tunnel, but I prefer tunnel as its quicker.

Okay:) ill look in to a Ferry i think as ive not been on one in 10years :P yay :) Do they have a Sainsburys there?

Dont think the euro tunnels actually much quicker than the ferry, although if its bad weather the english channel isn't a nice thing to float on...

Had many a voyage to calais, with people hurling everywhere.

went there with my school 10yrs ago, was absolute ****!!! Roads are not a problem as long as your a confident driver. I lived in Canada for a yr and within the first 2wks had gotten a CDN license and my own car.

I always go on euro-tunnnel to France - it's miles quicker than the ferry though I admit being in your car the whole time is a bit dull. Driving on the right is no problem really - just need to concentrate watch out for the priorite-a-droite system round towns.

Last time I went to Calais on a booze-cruise there was a warehouse place called "EastEnders" that was considered the place to go :p

calais is such a **** hole..lol... i hope you are not staying the night :)

too right it is

don't buy your booze from the tourist traps like Eastenders and Cite Europe , go to the local supermarkets , Continent is best but Mamouth also OK

TBH stuff isn't that much cheaper any more

oh and another thing to watch out for, the French live there :mad:

I was about to say that booze cruises to France really aren't that worthwhile these days.
With the large supermarkets in the UK constantly offering low prices on beer/larger you may actually find prices are more expensive in France.
My mum smokes however even cigarette prices are almost the same as they are in the UK.

What we do if we're going these days is to Tunnel through but then drive to Belgium.
It really doesn't take long to cross the border and the prices do seem better.

Well atm i get 15% discount from Sainsbuirys (staff) so atm i don't know if it will be cheaper over there or here

yes, not worth it these days

beer not much cheaper, as you say Belgium better for tobacco

Wine isn't that great either , a lot of cheap French wine is very poor and the French are so far up their own arses that they stock very little new world wine

Yep, they are much more up their own arses than us Brits (I should know, I lived there for a number of years and married a Frenchie) but maybe that explains why they still have manufacturing industries, for example cars, whereas us Brits were happy to see our car industry die whilst we drove around in Japanese and Korean imported cars.

So really not much point going to Calais then ? :/

looked it up anyway £30 return + Car with SeaFrance :P
