Xbox Originals Won't Have Achievements

If you read the other thread regarding this issue you would have noticed that some of us wanted the games to simply run better without the associated emulation glitches. I don't care a toss about achievements or score.

Do you even have a 360?

Or you could, you know, just play it? Like back in the day, before you gave a toss about such things? :p

Will do, But on the disc i've had for a long long time. As opposed to paying for something a second time. I can see obviously this appealing to people who dont own the game like.

But i would have bought the game again for the achievements.

Why would I want to spend £7 on something I could spend £1 for in a shop and get boxart and everything?! Its bull that they cant add achievements - look at Halo 2 PC. Thats an original xbox game. Look at all of these old arcade games that they have magically added achievements for. I reckon because barely anyone will buy these now that they don't have achievements, they will either add them or make them free.

My bets are on that they will add them anyway :p

do people actually go after achievements then?

i just play a game as is, then get bored and let it dust up

never really took much note of the achievement malarky

I like the challenges that achievments set, its a whole new way to play a game. I like it :)

oh right - i never know what achievement i can get, until the game pops up you won 25G or whatever

the books never tell me, so i just play as is

Yeah I don't know how people can diss the achievement system tbh - if you like them, then great, if you don't then ignore them - problem solved.

Personally, I enjoy them for helping me get the most out of the games I really, really like.

(But I think that 'online-only' achievements are a bad idea)

Definitely, often it makes you play the game a completely different way to usual, which means you can get more enjoyment out of the game. I personally think the achievement system is one of the best things to happen to gaming in years.

MS agree, especially the 'kill x number of players with weapon y' which is why they handed out an edict to developers to try and not have them. Multiplayer games were ruined by players trying to get x number of melee kills rather than just play the game.

If I look at COD4 and even Halo 3 I can see this has been taken on board.

Very true. Some are dull, but a few are kind of like the developer saying: "Hey, did you know you could do this whole level without using a gun?". It sounds boring, but if that means playing around more with the mavity gun in HL2 in Ravenholm with saw blades and zombies, it perhaps makes you play the level a different way than you might have otherwise.

But they can also add a little encouragement to 'complete' the game and not just race through it. Try and find all the extras etc. Sometimes I find they really do keep me playing a game and enjoying it more.

But others are just dull :)

EDIT: To get back to the point, this is why is would be virtually impossible to add achievements into old Xbox 1 games when emulating. They might not detect when you have collected all the items, killed x people etc. So only basic ones would be possible at best, and thats not enough to be worth it.

rightfully so, why should old Xbox games be given achievements? The reason MS gave was a bit vague (which has now been updated) but still... right decision imo.

Once you;ve put the game in, press the globe button on your 360, click on your gamerscore and then the game your playing and lists the achevments there :)

Good post.

I love the little blighters. They encourage me to play the games I get just that little bit more and harder.

All achievements whether they're kill 53k zombies, collect 500 orbs or play a level without firing a shot are all challenges thrown down by the developers and I don't really see how they're different to the inherent challenges of the game (and in most respects they do align). A game challenge is a game challenge is a game challenge; you could go for all perfects in Burnout way before the 360 version and you'd get points for it and some people would want to go for them whilst others wouldn't; nothing really has changed.

I also can't deny that when I occasionally look back at the games I've played it's nice to see that permanent marker that I did do COD2 Vet etc and in some respects I'd love to be able to see that I did indeed complete Airwolf on the spectrum.

I also think they've been Microsoft's masterstoke this generation and are responsible for 360's ridiculously high games bought per console ratio.

The primary objective for them even releasing these games (in my opinion ), is to see how well the platform copes with downloading full Xbox games over the internet. The potential for full Xbox 360 games being downloaded via Xbox Live is defintely there and this could be the start of a whole new digitial age in console gaming.

Of course their Secondary objective is to make money, but I'm not bothered in the slightest about achievements. I'm just glad I can play some games I missed out on for the Xbox ^^.
