3870x2 in crossfire pics

hot diggity that looks great!!

the article only mentions the 790 chipset so i take it even 2 of these won't work in intel?

looks good, but Nvidia will probably release a DX10.1 version of the Ultra, so 4 AMD/ATi cards will just match it :(
also in this time of watching power consumption as we should all go green, how much power will be used in Xfire?

I don't think they will as it would probably cost around 600-800 pound and put itself way out of most peoples reach. They will most likely use the 8800 gt gts on 65nm to keep the prices down.

i wonder if you can crossfire one of these and a 3870 ? hmmm

they are supposed to be sorting out, forgot the name, but essentially unbalanced crossfire, touting that you can even use a onboard ati core to boost a pci-e card by 5-10%. not sure if that will ever happen.

frankly crossfire/sli isn't really a big deal at all, its not much of a problem as long as drivers aren't causing crashing. the biggest problem up till now has been, why buy two midrange that only just beat a high end card for similar/higher cost. its not worthwhile, and buying 2x £250-350 cards is just too expensive for most of us. but crossfire with 2x£120 cards with very very good performance is cheap and there isn't a £240 that can come close to what 2x 3850's can do.

there was already a review around, its called "MIXED MODE".
and yes, it does work according to them.
need to find the link but it was the first to review the 3870...

One thing I noticed when looking at those pictures is that is only seems to have 1x PCI-E connector, which is kind of odd when the card is basically just 2x 3870XT's... I would have thought it would have had 2 power connectors rather than one. If it is just one connector then that would be really good power efficiency :)

First thing I thought when I saw that was the OEM version of the HD2900 XT. Damn that thing is huge. Guess if I want one of those I'll be getting the dremel out. :o
