Which one would you go for?
My girlfriend want to buy a pair of 2.1 speaker.
I have the ae aego and they are superb.
But her friend mentioned about BOSE companion 5 which is far more expensive. which one is better?

thanx

The bose is better. On the other hand the aego's are great for the money. If you really are looking for good quality you would have to go with separates ( amp/bookshelfs ) :)

separates are the best! 2.1 are much better when you have a limited space. ( put you sub under your bed!:p)

Ignore the friend and keep the aego's :)

Lol. And I bet her friend has heard from somewhere the Bose are best too. A PC 2.0/2.1 are ok, but if you have the money and desire quality ditch even the Aego and look into Hi-Fi

I just bought these Bose speakers and the quality is the clearest I've ever heard, it's amazing!

Well take them back for the love of god whilst you still can then audition the other main contenders in the same price bracket.

ALl you are doing is funding the BOSE marketing machine. Their materials are horrific, design is a load of tosh, then they market it as some revolutionary new patented *insert fancy word that means nothing* speakers.

Inclined to agree, you really are paying for a name with bose.

I was over in america back in the 90's when the bose acustimass first hit mainsteam, and it was pretty revolutioary at the time, using descreet satelites and a seperate sub. sounded good too...for a small home set-up.

Nowadays theres many better solutions available....I must stress that you should hear a systems side by side when choosing somthing.

A perfect example of this, is when I was shopping for an MP3 player dock for my dad, we auditioned all the regulars, altec lansing, bose, JBL etc.

We ended up buying an "intempo" dock for about £80, it was not the most expensive, but it sounded significantly better than the other junk.
niether of us had ever heard of intempo, so it just goes to show, let your ears be the judge.

cambridge A1 (revison3) £99
Tannoy F1 custom £99

You wont even need a sub with this set-up, tannoy speakers rock, and have excellent range and clarity.

Im curently running the old versions of the tannoys, the M1's and M3's along with a paradigm sub, powered by a kenwood 6 channel amp.. but this is my main audio system....

The tannoy satelites are so good on their own, better than the big speakers in my opinion, they just keep on making me smile when used in 2.0 config.

I've been using the Tannoy M3's and M1's for the last 7 years, haven't replaced them because they sound too damn good!

Yes I second this: absolutely stunning on my setup with limited space. I've had the Aego's as well, and to be honest there is simply no comparison.

What was the old saying?

No Highs......

No Lows.......

Must be Bose!

AE's are a much better option, or the Audica MPS-1 like I use for the PC speakers.

perhaps I forgot to add IMO, the same for you. At the end of the day I would recommend anyone with an interest in them trying them out.I was given the choice of taking them back if I didn't like them but I do.

Aego M's are excellent for a 2.1 desktop setup, for the cost, coupled with a decent soundcard they put out a superb sound.
Added to that, they have a small footprint, are well designed and attractive to look at, it matters.

like what? Not saying you may necessarily be wrong but for limited space, consideration of neighbours etc it would be nice to have a few examples? I was going to go for the Boston acoustics Soundware, but seems though my setup is in the bedroom and my neighbours never go out I wouldn't have used them with anything but headphones: So I went for the Campanion 5's which are more than adequate for the above needs. There is a problem with the usb drivers not recognizing the Bose setup though in Win 7 and Vista though.
