Stupid question - to ladybirds turn into butterflies?

It's an Argellian moonmoth, obviously a stowaway on a spaceship...why am I talking such rubbish?

It's a butterfly. Someone might be able to tell you what type. Pretty things and I'm almost sure they're completely harmless. You should try to shoo it outdoors though, as they need to live outdoors.

Or maybe it's a moth. I don't recall the difference off the top of my head, but I think moths are nocturnal and much less colourful. Entomology isn't my strong suit.

EDIT: Maybe not shoo it outside. It's winter. I've never seen a butterfly in winter.

EDIT: Here we go - what to do with a butterfly indoors in a cold climate:

The best thing to do at this point is to keep the butterfly inside in a small enclosure. Try feeding it from a sponge impregnated with sugar-water.

It might have got lost on migration, or something. Winter here is too cold for butterflies. So you're going to have to kill it or feed it.

The past few nights I have had a ladybird that sometimes flies around my bedroom... but tonight there is a butterfly flying around instead (which is somewhat distracting...)

I was wondering if I should expect the ladybird to return also, or did it turn into a butterfly... Biology was never my strong point. :o

hahaha and i thought i was a retard (jk) :D:D:D

Just wanna check, this is a butterfly isn't it? ;)

(Managed to catch a sneaky snap, it does look quite pretty)

nice ladybird you got there mate :)

Its going to die in a couple of days. I tried to save the odd butterfly that used to fly around my bedroom when I lived at home, but none of the gits would go anywhere near the sugar water that I put out.

And im also reminded of the song
"There was an old lady who swallowed a fly" for some reason.
:D

I've never seen a butterfly in winter. Do they migrate or something

Nope its because people put their heating on, and some butterflies lay eggs inside peoples houses, the heating comes on, and the eggs think its warm enough to hatch. Theyre ultimately doomed though because there arent many flowers left at this time of year for them to feed on.
/science lesson :D

i had a butterfly in my room once...
it seemed to like the warmth from my computer... sadly it got a little too close to a Vantec Tornado i had running at full tilt...

left quite a mess inside my case.
moths have an attendancy of doing the same as well.
