My current graphics setup consists of a single overclocked GTX 675 / 1000, which runs most things at my monitors native resolution just fine (1920 x 1200).

As you guys are already aware, trying to run Crysis at a decent frame-rate is tough :D - now I know that NVIDIA are realising there new 9 series cards sometime next year, but am curious as to whether i can get a crossfire system up and running that I would get a performance boost from over my current setup?

My current mobo is abit-pro so SLI is not an option. I have no idea about ATI cards, so any advice on whether to wait for certain ATI cards, so i can go Crossfire or whether just to wait until NVIDIA releases it 9 series card and keep a single graphics card?

Not sure what the best thing is to do

Thanks for quick reply, I had it on pre-order so got it yesterday - can't really run at 1920 x 1200 unless I drop setting to between medium / high.

I don't really want to have to drop the res down in order to play games as I enjoy playing them at my monitor's native res.

Even with the setting as they are, the games seems to be sluggish - perhaps I need to look into how to measure the fps - as currently it does not appear to be smooth at all :p

I guess i was just wondering whether I need / should go X-FIRE or just wait until the next gen cards are released, sometime next year.

Thanks for any input!

Crossfire two ATI HD 3870 cards. Will beat the 8800GTX.
Also due to 55nm process will still be relatively cool, quiet & not draw much power.

Full spec includes:

abit pro mobo
4gb OCZ ram
q6600 (overclocked to 3.6)
1 x 8800 gtx overclocked 675 / 1100

I will look into the 3870 cards as suggested, would this yield a decent improvement?

thanks for the advice and help!

I'm shocked to be honest.. I thought that would run Crysis without a clitch.

Same here, im running Crysis all high at 1280x1024, and it runs great, even in loads of action, and my rigs (in sig) all stock, and suerly a GTX can handle that res (1920 x 1200), unless he's on very high settings, in which case i could understand, as cards to run it that high are a long way off yet. :D

You'd be surprised, my OC'd GTX can't even run High smooth at 1680x1050, heck even High and Shadows/Post-Pro on Medium runs laggy half the time.

At 1280x1024 it's the same story, can't wait to try my 8800GT tomorrow. (I think my GTX is dodgy or my PSU isn't delivering the goods, though it does on most other games)

Jihad,

Are you expecting better performance from the GT? I hope not :)

I think you'll find it's your system may not be configured properly and mis-managed, explaining poor performance on 'High' settings. The GTX has little problem with it.

Now on Very High, yes, it's obvious!

But, an A2 revision 640 GTS at 600/1600/2000 can handle Very High @1280X1024, and hold a stable high teens frame rate.

Crysis is very forgiving in that the mouse movement stays relatively smooth given the actual frames being rendered. You can increase this smoothness by forcing the driver to accept more commands ahead of time.

Anyways, the new GTS that's supposedly launching on December 3rd, will out perform an Ultra, stock to stock, so...that might be the thing to wait for.

And if your PSU or GPU were 'dodgy,' then it would BSOD or hard reset/shutdown the system.
