Hello,

Just bought a 4GB pen drive off a well known auction site ;)... anyway, i've filled it up with 4GB of files just to make sure it wasnt a knock off... and the transfer speeds were a bit funny.

so i've deleted two 2gb folders i put on to make up the 4gb and started putting 500meg folders on one at a time, now then... the first couple of folders go on but take around 10 minutes to transfer, after that the very same folder takes around 30 seconds (exact same content - just being copied into a folder by a different name)

could it be that this is one of those knock of 1gb drives posing as a 4gb? or could it be that theres a ram module thats just lacking a bit of power?

bit confused on this one, help!!

Some of the cheaper memory sticks use both slower and faster memory which sounds like what your seeing.

So they will use 2GB of fast stuff to give it high specs that they can boast about then another 2GB of slow stuff to make up the storage to the required amount.

bah it looks like its a 2gb masked as a 4gb :(

any way of reformatting it so windows see's is as a proper 2gb drive?

is it likely to be reliable if this is done?

Cheers Vtec9k

open it and see what the memory modules say?
you can format flash drives by right clicking on them in "My Compuer" and selecting format
