1920x1200 Gaming on a X1950 Pro 256mb (Dell 2407WFP)

I've just ordered a Dell 2407WFP A04 and I'm putting off buying a video card until next year when more DX10 cards are released. My question is in the meantime how will gaming in the monitor's native res with my system (in sig) cope? I mainly play BF2 and will be playing CoD4 at Christmas.

If I need to run these games at a lower res, how well does the monitor downsize it's to 1650x1050?

Thanks :)

Hey,

Ive got exactly the same setup.

You can run most things fine, anything recentish is going to struggle at native res (i.e forget ut3/crysis et al) with all the eye candy on.

That said, I dont really notice much of a drop in visuals by dropping the res down out of native; Its a tradeoff between whether you want to run a game at native res with medium details or a lower res with high details, and the best choice depends on the game.

I tend to drop down to 1680x1050 or 1440x900 and then turn the details up until i get an unacceptable framerate; Most games dropping out of native is fine.

Fully agree with that, I'm using an HD2600 Pro, which is a lesser card than the x1950.

just made the jump from a 20 to a 24, with an overclocked 640 mb 8800gts most things play quite well if you use no aa eg cod4 as for crysis it looks like a game that people wont be able to play at a decent rate for a while yet

If you go through the menu's on your 2407wfp a4 you'll be able to scale it differently, set it to 1:1 mapping on a lower res and it should act pretty similar to how it does at native res, just with a black border around it.
