What age to stop Pocket Money ?

I agree with this statement. EMA is more than enough imo to cover most things. I still have around £500 left over from my EMA from last year sitting in my account. Still getting it this year as well.

I was never given pocket money when i was young cause i never asked for it. I felt guilty for taking money from my parents since they earned it. But i would think 16 is a bit old for pocket money. I would have said the cut off was around 14 or 15.

That's when money is needed most  And paper rounds are just crap, or I'm just lazy :p

caps lock: cruise control for retards

and on the subject of your post: oh boo hoo, lots of us have to work, and do many other things outside of work, including sports/gym etc, get over yourself
JUST HOW MANY TIMES DO U GO TO THE GYM? DID U USED TO GET HOME FROM SCHOOL AT 5 MAKE YOUR OWN DINNER THEN GO STRAIGHT TO TRAINING AT WHATEVER YOUR CHOSEN SPORT IS AND THEN COME HOME AT AROUND 9:30 ABSOLUTELY SHATTERED? DID YOU USED TO GET UP EARLIER ON THE WEEKENDS THAN U DID DURING THE WEEKDAYS? IF I HAD A JOB AT 16 I WOULD HAVE ENDED UP DIEING OF STRESS/EXHAUSTION AND LIKE I SAID I DIDNT GET ANY POCKET MONEY ANYWAY BUT MY PARENTS DIDNT FORCE ME TO GET A JOB AND THEY STILL PAID FOR THINGS LIKE DINNER MONEY OR ANY BOOKS FOR SCHOOL

I've never had free pocket money. Had to work with my dad on the milk round on a saturday morning from the age of 8, and it was bloody cold in the winter at 4am I can tell you!

Still, I felt I was making a contribution (to dad getting home earlier on a saturday to spend time with mum and us kids) and I got paid a few quid for my efforts which allowed me to buy myself some sweets.

Didn't always enjoy it, but it got an otherwise shy kid out of the house to mix with the general public, taught me at an early age how to handle money, and how to run faster than angry dogs!

:)

help me, i'm drowning in a sea of stupidity :rolleyes:

i didn't say i went to the gym, i do however cycle and walk a lot in the week (outside work(which is 30 hours solid walking per week).

when i was at college i was doing 9-5 which meant up at 7, home at 6.30, i also worked 16 hours a week, had a degree of social life and still managed to have enough time not to do my homework in (i could have done it, i just chose not to(thats alone is possibly the only reason i didn't do as well as i could have done). oh, and managed almost 1000 hours of guild wars in 3 months (and still managed to do all my responsibilities/get 'reasonable' grades).

i wake up at 7am every morning, every day, even if i went to bed only a few hours before.

my parents didn't force me to get a job, thats not the issue here anyway, it's whether or not they should get pocket money from 16.

pplease stop using caps and grow up 'mate' :)

I'm starting a vote for ban!

It is a mere concept I believe. (Do you know anything? Do you merely believe that you know it?).

I know things in Mathematics (as they are proven), nothing else has the same proof rigour.

Angus Higgins

Yet can mathematics not be easily be regarded as a concept itself?

Sure i can easily know what I'm doing however everything else in the world i can not be sure off, only my own mind :)

Also things proven in maths doesn't mean their right especially as most maths is theory with no experiment to back it up.

One thing I've learnt from lectures, theory fits experiment, never the other way round.

Was 16 for me, though even at that age i had been doing a paper round each day since i was 11, then started working saturdays at a butchers when i was 13 moving on to doing wed/thur/fri after school also when i was 14. At 17 doing 'A' levels i also got a job in the local pub on Tues nights, sunday afternoon and evening. Bit of a workaholic! Was earning about £100 a week at that point.

On the point raised by the caps lock kid above, from the age of 16, i also went to the gym Mon/Wed/Fri for 2 hrs after working, rugby training wed/thur/fri after the gym when it clashed, played rugby sat afternoon and sunday morning, so yes, if you have got the dedication and resolve then you can manage to work and play. A mate of mine had much the same work schedule as me from 11-16yrs but he swam for his county/england level and was up for swimming practice every morning at 5am before going to school also!

my yougest gets £30ema but we give her £10 spend a week plus £10 dinner money then she babysits for my nephew 1 night a week for £15 , so although we are not rolling in money she gets a decent amount :)

I feel at 16 is the time to stop money flow to the kids, reason I say this is it's what happened to me which made me value money better but were all different.

That is the good thing about Mathematics. In Chemistry, or Physics, one conducts experiments, merely obfuscating the situation (due to variables which one cannot easily control). Mathematics is a concept (I agree), however it is a wholly true concept. The "world" of Mathematics is one in which one can think in a manner whose level of abstraction is high, yet simultaneously one can be working something out which is of major significance to other things.

I like doing Mathematics, not necessarily applying the Mathematics (although this can be interesting).

The "world" of Mathematics is one in which the theory is the empirical, and hence, in the opinion of "Angus-Higgins", it is a good one.

THE ROCK SAYS JUST BRING IT!!!!

WHAT COLLEGE HAS HOURS OF 9-5 ANYWAY LOL?

PERHAPS MY TIME MANAGEMENT SKILLS WERE A BIT SUSPECT DURING MY SCHOOL DAYS AS I EXPECT MOST ARE BUT I STILL WOULD HAVE SAID THEY WERE BETTER THAN MOST. I MAYBE COULD HAVE GOT A SATURDAY JOB BUT SEEING AS I USED TO TRAIN SAT MORNINGS THEN WENT HOME AND SLEPT FOR ANOTHER 4-6 HOURS I REALLY DO THINK I WOULD HAVE ENDED UP GETTING ILL IF I HADNT HAD THAT.

HOWEVER I DO FEEL YOUR TIME MANGEMENT SKILLS ARE VERY SUSPECT. FROM THE FIGURES YOU QUOTE IN YOUR POST I HAVE WORKED OUT THAT YOU WOULD END UP WITH 5 HOURS FREE TIME A WEEK IF U HAD ON AVERAGE 8.5 HOURS SLEEP A NIGHT AND IN THAT TIME U SOMEHOW MANAGED TO FIT IN 1000 HOURS OF GUILD WARS WHICH IS 41 DAYS (OVER A MONTH)

SOMETHING DOESNT ADD UP AND I THINK YOU ARE LYING OR ARE SERIOUSLY MISINFORMED ABOUT HOW MUCH TIME YOU SPEND DOING THINGS AND WALKING REALLY ISNT A SUBSTITUTE FOR SPORTS TRAINING. YOU PROBABLY DIDNT NEED TO GO TO SLEEP EARLY EACH NIGHT TO RECOVER BUT I CERTAINLY DID.
